So final decision time, any recommendations?
For a cold but mild Southeast Missouri winter...
I have about 13k miles in my OEM tires. One option is to buy the Blizzaks for winter ($1200) and then after the winter,I might need a new set of tires for the rest of the year. Another option is to just buy one set of good all season tires and save myself the money spent on two sets of tires. One guy says that there are some excellent all season tires with very good winter performance and to go with it and another says all season tires are not good either in the winter or at anytime, to have a set of Blizzaks for the winter and a set of summertires for the rest of the year. So any final advice from anyone? |

This is going to come down to how intense your winters are, and how much confidence you have in your driving.. The Blizzaks are probably the better choice if you guys get a lot of snow.

If you're asking whether you should get Blizzaks or All Season tires because you will be driving in the snow, then definitely get the Blizzaks. Safety should be priority here. If you plan on leaving the Z at home in event of a chance of snow if you get the All Seasons, then that would be ok I guess.

I hope most people on this forum are more realistic, but there are tons of drivers out there who are confident yet don't have a fvcking clue what they're doing. I wouldn't rely on that to tell you whether you need snow tires or not.

After doing some reading and reviews, I believe the best decision is tgo get the Blizzaks for winter and ultra high perfoormance summer tires for the rest of the year. In tests, the surprise seems to be that the summer tires easily and badly beat the all season in wet conditions and the snow tires comfortably beat the all season in winter conditions. Summer tires were also clearly the best in dry conditions.
Its going to be costly but I will buy the Blizzaks for the winter, use my OEM tires for another year and purchase new summer tires in 2016. |

Put on Michelle's Ice-X maybe a week ago as my first winter and they perform better than expected very quiet cabin noise. I live in the Chicago area, so I typically expect some heavy snow.
I would suggest a winter tire they still provide great performance regardless of the weather and IF this year you happen to be slammed by snow you will see where the money went And as far as summer tires, on a Z its probably best to have a summer set and winter set Last edited by Array; 11-07-2014 at 03:12 PM. |

You can then sell the SUV in the spring and still make most of your money back. Once the cost of the car is $3000 you don't loose much on the resale. Last winter I bought an Infinity QX4 for $3000 and sold it in the spring fro $2500. Kind of miss that Q it was a nice 4x4. So I only lost $500 and insurance + gas. This would only work if you have somewhere to store the Z for the winter.

But you'd be exposing "your wife" to strangers that might ram her from different angles and she will never be the same.
I think I used this analogy in some other thread. It was not met with acceptance. I am keeping "my wife" locked up for the winter.

Driving the Z in the snow is like introducing your sister to your Military buddies. Nothing good comes out of it.
