friend has powdercoated rays wheels that he offered to me cheap, but are they OK?
he said besides a few scuffs when they got powder coated one of the lugnut holes is a little larger (possibly from the baking?) on one of the fronts. He said he has driven 10k miles on them no problem. I don't want there to be any vibrations and he said the tightness is fine. I was going to put these on my car (love the black color) and sell my uncoated rays wheels.

why not just spray your rays wheels with dupli color wheel paint?
if you have scuffs, just spot bondo it. much cheaper probably and you know they dont vibrate (unless they do). powdercoating wheels is kinda overated, imo. |

...I would just go with your wheels and change up the color. If you really wana go the cheap route, just dip them...the can cost about 8 bucks and you can even do it with the wheels still on the car (wouldn't recommend though)...

You can have them checked to ensure they aren't warped -- why do you think they might be?
Assuming they are straight, mount, balance, and enjoy. EDIT: oh, the lug hole? If the other ones are fine it should be fine. I've driven around with one stud missing and it wasn't a big deal. Not recommended for a track car, but for a DD, I don't think it will be an issue. Or just powder coat yours -- that should be less money that a new set of wheels.

For a DD I think it would be fine.
If you're going to track it as mentioned above I'd probably get something that I would trust my life with. Also depending on the type of wheel and type of powder coating, some people will say that powder coating an aluminum wheel will decrease its structural integrity because the aluminum is already annealed at a certain temperature yadda yadda. Also powder coating a wheel could technically hide internal cracks that would be under the powder coat.

The lug hole being larger is a flag to me that something has happened to the rim. Powder coating temperatures are not that high, maybe about 400F. Their is no way at that temperature that a rim should change shape. Manufacturers powder coat rims all the time, they wouldn't do it if there was a risk that they would lose rims from them becoming misshaped.

yeah, the misshaped hole is definitely not from powdercoating.
