Default MIXING TIRES front and back 370Z

Hi,
I'm new to the forum. I've had this '10 370 anniversary since new.
I currently have 16,000 miles and my rear tires won't pass inspection but my front tires are very good.
I've heard that POTENZA S-04 pole position is a better tire than the OEM Potenza REO5OA tires. and tire rack.com is like $100 less per tire.
My question is : … Can I safely have a different tread different tire style on the rear than the front. "mixing tread and tires"

Eventually I would replace the front with the S-04 … WIll I even notice a difference. Am I being to crazy particular?

I don't track the car … basically just drive spring to fall. But I like to have "safe" fun . Thanks,
Steph n …. and glad to be part of a great forum.

I'd stay away from different compounds front to rear. If the rear grips a lot better than the front, you've introduced more understeer.

Dont put different tires on the front and back. Yes S-04's are better than the stock tires (as are Michelin PSS and Bridgestone RE-11).

Do you recommend I am I better off scraping the good front tires and just getting a set of four S-04's?
or should I just get two rear OEM's like the front?

Thanks

Id go with all 4, take the 2 fronts home, and sell them for cheap to recoup some cost

I ran different front and rear for the last 6 months. And I've been swapping fronts and rears, just never the same all the way around (until last night)

It's... Interesting. You notice differences between tires much easier

I have the stock oem tire on the front of my 2010 which still have 6 or 7 32nds and a different set on back to replace the bald oem tires (General Gmax) when the front wear out i will probably be getting a set of the Gmax for the fronts . i have no issues with the way it drives and am enjoying having traction again .

I'd think you'd be fine. My azz end slips to much as is. Put a better tire back there and it will stick with the way the front does.

Match the speed rating would be my input. I have mixed tires on other vehicles. Right now my front tires would need to be replaced on the 370 before the rears. I will likely stick with OEM tires though.

This is all great advise. I am weighing your valid points and experiences with matching and mixed tires front and back.
I think I might order two Potenza S-04 Pole for the rear and leave the OEM potenza's on the front for now. If I notice a (problem in handling) difference I can just order another two potenza S-04's for the front right away. otherwise I'll just wait until my front's wear out and get the S-04's in like 6K - 9K miles or so.
I'll Probably pull the trigger in a week when the weather is warmer. …. 29* F this morning ! What the heck !!! LOL I'm ready for a road trip down south …. ThankZ for the input .

I've done it for years prior and there are several threads on this topic

As others have stated it's perfectly fine to a different set per axle but certainly not ideal. Why not just get another set of RE050A's anyway?

I agree with everyone. Please just buy a set of re-050 for rear. I was in your EXACT position. Part of me wanted to put RE-11 in the back as my rear wear out much faster than front. but resisted the temptation. Put a set of re-050 in rear. By the time rear was bald, front were bald too. Then changed all 4 tires to RE-11. I was in heaven with RE-11S! 2nd best investment I made for the z (HKS exhaust being first). No mix match. But a pair of re050. my
