How are tires from a Nissan dealership?
Hi Everyone,
I need to replace my tires, and I have been doing a lot of snooping on the forums and I now have an idea of what I want. First though I wanted to ask everyone a question, I received this offer from my local Nissan dealership, buy 3 tires get the 4th for a dollar. I don't know much about tires so here are my ignorant questions; Are these Nissan made tires? If so, are they specifically made for Nissan vehicles (more specific a 370z) and How good are these tires? If anyone has experience or know about getting tires from a Nissan dealership I would appreciate some information. Stay Safe |

Wow, that's a first, but I'm not gonna bash brother!
No, Nissan doesn't make tires. Nissan/a dealer will not actually offer you a good price all said and done, and god help you if you decide to get road hazard and such. If you can, (hopefully you have it) get a Costco card and go there. While the TIRE price isn't always better, and YES the selection is limited. They will do a good job. They will not screw you with add-ons because they're all added on already. Nitro fill, road hazard, and such for free. And right now Bridgestones are $70 off if you buy 4.

Buy them here, you get full lifetime warranty, free balance, rotation, free flats, etc. The name of the store is Americas Tire, they are in Nor and SoCal
Car & Truck Tires, Custom Wheels, Car Rims & Truck Rims - Discount Tire Bridgestone Potenza S04 Pole Position is a great tire, there are many options ... but it's like a movie, one guy tells you it is great, the next guy says it sucks. |

(Btw, Robdoc, those are all included at Costco too, but I do go to discount tire for free patches even though I don't buy tires from them because they usually do it quicker. Somehow 50% of the time my tire can't be patched AFTER they take the nail/screw out. Then I ask them why they didn't tell me that in the first place and that I "can't afford" a new tire right now and I "don't have a spare". Somehow 5 min later my tire comes back patched just fine and holds air just fine until the tires are corded.)

Just had some work done at fontana Nissan race shop (go here they are good) and too noticed this sign...Asked my service advisor about it and said yes buy 3 and 4ths a dollar. Z was included or at least he said that it was never called out that it wasn't
Here's the way I see it though: 1. You are going to be most likely limited to the tires they have in stock or at the local (insert name of tire shop here) they work with and their selection 2. It's going to have to be one of the staggered sizes offered which stock: On the sport rays are 245/40/19 F & 275/35/19 or the Nismo 245/40/19 f & 285/35/19 R (not sure on these sizes for the base rims but tire rack said 225/50/18 f & 245/45/18 r. When I saw this I was like really ) 3. Brands they called out we're Bridgestone Goodyear Continental seems legit enough but there's gotta be that voice in your head saying "why are their 3 tires the same price as the 4 at discount or tire rack?" That's weird right Don't know I'm almost due for a set if it is that good to be true ill post up the results.

Oh come on...you're going to spend $800 -$1500 on these tires. Do some research. These things are your interface with the road. They will affect your daily driving experience vastly more than any single performance item you can buy for $1000. Compare the cost of your dealer's tire offer to online prices. Tire Rack is as good an online shop as any. Add the cost of shipping (usually about $75) and then mounting and balancing (usually $15 - $20 per tire) . You can fall for that "warranty" and "road hazard" scams, but before you do make sure you CLEARLY understand the conditions and exclusions. Ain't that good a deal. Also, make sure you understand the equipment that your tire dealer uses to mount and balance. A typical dealer's typical tire machine run by a typical dealer service tech will trash your painted Nissan rims in a heartbeat. And what kind of balancer do they use? That's a critical question for a high-performance sports car. Likewise, tire selection is important. Tire Rack has that relevant data. These high-performance tires are most definitely not all created equal. And just because the tire they sell is a Bridgestone doesn't mean anything. There's a huge difference in performance between the Potenza S-04 and the Potenza RE-050A and the Potenza RE-11. I found the Potenza S-04 to be far better than OEM at 2/3 the price, but most people agree that the Michelin Pilot Super Sports are the top of the line.
I just bought new tires from Tire Rack for my new Z to replace the OEMs. These new Potenza S-04s noticeably outperform the Potenza RE-050As that came on the car. And they were $800 for the set of four. I took them to the local Chevy dealer because they have a state-of-the-art "no touch" tire machine and a service tech that knows what he's doing (happens to be my son). Rims came back without a mark on them. $800 for the tires, $75 shipping, mounting balancing was free for me but normally costs $15 per tire. On my last Z, I got a sidewall puncture. A new RE-050A was $400 at local NTB and they trashed my rim. Last edited by MacCool; 04-06-2014 at 06:13 AM. |

try tires-easy.com They have some good prices.
Right now the hankook v12's are on sale for $152 each, or the Nankang ns2's for $126.

Always smart to shop a big purchase. I saved $300 buying online compared to the best price I could find at a local dealer, but we're talking about a lot of variables that can affect pricing of various sizes and models.
