Default New Tires Just Arrived

Now I'm drooling for Summer!...

My Bridgestone Re-11's Just arrived at my Buddy's Shop in the City. He sent me a Picture when they hit the Dock.

Got a great deal on the front's.

Bridgestone Potenza Re-11
Front: 245/40R-19
Rear: 285/35R-19

The reason I went with the Re-11 instead of the Stock Re050's was mainly price, but was also influenced by 370z.com members and reviews.

I'm ready to take her out of storage now! but we have another polar vortex coming to Chicago.

Good thing I will be in Irvine, CA in 4 weeks golfing and getting trained at Carl Zeiss's Metrology Lab. I heard Greddy is in Irvine...maybe I will have to stop and pick up a CAI and Exhaust.

Those are excellent tires, but pricey -- well worth it, tho

Will 285/35R-19 fit on the stock 275/35r19 size?

Yessir

I've got 305s on the rears right now (I picked them up used from a forum member), but I usually run 255 on the fronts and 285 on the rears on my sport wheels.

How will that affect the car's system? (speedo, traction control, etc)

I punctured the rear tire (RE050A) and ordered a set of S-04. Are the RE11s worth the extra money over the S-04? Would the S-04s better if I got them in the 285 size?

Changing the width of the tire will not affect the speedometer (as far as I know - someone please correct me if I'm missing something). A change in the tire diameter would affect the speedometer. Traction control is not affected by your choice in tires.

I think the general consensus would be that RE-11 > S-04. As for your last two questions, they are difficult to answer without some fundamental understanding of what you're looking to get out of the car. My Z is a DD, so my approach to modding and maintenance is going to be different from a guy who tracks or does a lot of auto-x events. The difference between 275 and 285 is pretty minimal, but I like the look of the wider tire. In racing, the wider tire is not necessarily your best option.

But wouldn't the 285/35 be slightly thicker than the 275/35 which would increase the diameter?

I'm DD the car, just trying to find better options/best bang for the buck than the stock RE050A. I have no qualms about them, except for the price.

Thanks for the help!

Technically, yes. But as long as the aspect ratio is the same, tire widths are fairly insignificant when it comes to diameter changes. For example, the diameter of a 275/35/19 tire is 26.579 inches, and the diameter of a 285/35/19 tire is 26.854 inches. That's not going to noticeably affect your speedometer. If you want to compare these numbers yourself, check out this site.

I did not find the RE050 to be satisfactory for a DD. They're sorely inadequate for any serious tracking or auto-x, and the treadwear is garbage for a DD. I got comparable performance and more than double the life out of my Nitto Invos. In your case, I think you just need to figure out which elements you care the most about (budget, size, performance, etc...). I would recommend RE-11s over the S-04, but if the price is right, the S-04s are not a bad option for a DD.

Happy to help
