Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3...
...I guess this is a new tire for '13.
Did a search but not getting correct search hits (seems to be showing pretty much anything with Michelin and pilot sport in the post). So, is anyone using these? I have an "out the door" price of $1,325 for the original sizes (245/275 - 19) as replacement from Discount Tire. Tire Rack has them for $1,210 shipped to me (including road hazard ins.). It looks like a wash because it will likely cost about $100 to do the swap. The Michelin PSS (older tire) costs more and has a mileage of 30,000 whereas the one I list above has 45,000. Comments? (thanks)

They are all seasons, so uou can't compare with the A/S+
And they are very new tires, so I wouldn't expect much in the way of reviews yet

Can't compare with the "A/S+"? What do you mean?

If the A/S+ is the tire you want, I'd rather go A/S3. Newer, Michelin rates them as a better tire in every respect, and if you buy them from somewhere local. Which I mean, Costco, if you don't like them, you have a 30 day return policy from the manufacturer. And I say Costco because I bet they won't screw you for the install again

Yeah, like you in SoCal, probably don't even need an all season. If it DOES rain in Atlanta, I just slow down to avoid hydroplane. And it rarely snows here (and if it did, I'd just drive the truck till it was gone). So, all I really need is a summer tire. I asked because it was cheaper (than the older PSS Michelin) and had more mileage warranty on them. Also, aren't all season tires louder on pavement?

Mimics the PSS in design but this is an all season tire. For actual max performance in your climate range get the Pilot Super Sport(PSS). Id consider this for my GTi but not my Z. Last edited by DLSTR; 10-02-2013 at 10:41 AM. |

Considering the Michelin all season tire outperformed some of the respected summer tires from other companies, why is it not worth considering for the Z? Mind you, I'm not tracking the car (but I do believe in "spirited" driving ).

Given that the summer PSS' are just so good and bring the car up to a touch higher standard why not. Treadwear wise its not that much difference. The new AS3 does appear to be a cut above in the All Season world with this review on the link I found. I was impressed. Im in Germany and use PSS for summer and have Blizzaks for winter. Roads here are well maintained but you do need true winter tires due to temperature no matter. Below 7C as an average, summer tires are hockey pucks. Braking and grip are noticeably affected. |

If I understood the rep at the store correctly, the asymmetrical pattern of the A/S tire facilitates rotating to the other side better than PSS tires. This would allow for longer use (potentially). Also, the rep mentioned something about tread wear warranty being better on this set of tires NOT ONLY because of the 45k but also because of Michelin's coverage on this tire as opposed to the PSS. Something about the warranty being somewhat voided (or really watered down) for the PSS tires because of differing widths on the 4-tires set. I'll admit to being a bit confused. He showed me on his screen the trade-in value of the tires in the event they were worn out at (for example) only 20k miles. When I was in the military, I lived near Stuttgart. For 3 years, I lived in Augsburg. Later, I live 4 years in Karlsruhe. Beautiful place, Germany. PS: Rep'd you.

Hey Slynky, did you ever end up getting the A/S 3 tires? I'm considering them as replacements for the stock Potenzas when the winter comes. If you did, what do you think of them?

I just bought pair of 285/35/19 to replace stock rear tire, so far I have no complain but I have not put them under any hard test yet.
I feel it give me a nicer ride and defiantly more quieter I hope this helps. |
