Tires, new Nitto Motivos..problems
Just replaced the worn out tires on my 2009z, 19 inch with Nitto Motivos and now I find that the car just doesn't feel right. First impression was that they were soft, then I noticed that in acceleration the car pulls left, deceleration goes right. Tried increasing pressure from 35 to 40 then 45 and no change....had alignment checked prior to tire change and was perfect...maybe needs changed with new tires?
I am perplexed as to what the issue is,,,,are the tires just not the right ones to have on a Z, or should I go to 50 pounds?? I hope someone has some ideas as I will need to return the tires and replace with something else in the next day or two. thanks for your help. |

Well, the car feeling soft is due to the tire being an All season, and having a soft sidewall, I can tell you that much.

soft sidewall would be my bet... but also, an alignment will do you a lot more good immediately after a tire change than before

Did you read any of the reviews online before buying? Read on 3 different sites the same experience on 3 different cars. They're all season tires with a lower speed rating. The claim is they're good for 60 K miles.
You looking for tread life or performance?

I was looking for a tire that would offer good performance that would be usable in colder weather too, Illinois has long cold season. Called the dealer and was interested in goodyear eagle as they worked good on my bmw but they insisted that the motivo was a much better tire and that they had installed them on a few z's with no complaints. So I went with it. I will try another alignment, but I am concerned that this tire is the problem, as I have never had a car pull left on acceleration and then right on deceleration...I guess I need suggestion on what tires to replace these with too, even if it is not all season, thx

Took z to tech, no alignment issue, he was shocked at how the car felt, he said absolutely the tires. Tire salesman told me that his good buddy has a z and has had no issues....hmm.
Good thing with discount tire is they will change them out without charge other than price difference charge. Im in central Illinois (by the way a conservative in a state of massive liberal confusion) only because I have too and DO want to drive my new z in the cold dry weather. So please bear with me as a newbie, I would really appreciate the recommendation of proper tire to purchase,,,even if it is a summer tire, I will get some rims for winter tires,,,, What are your recommendations? After this I hope some of you will assist me with sound mitigation as my hearing is bad enough already and the noise is bothersome. Please don't tell me to buy a different car, got a bmw and audi already, I just want to decrease noise and advice from some of you that have accomplished this already is greatly appreciated, and for those of you that want to poke fun, please don't the treads get so long when you do that. |

if you are going to drive the z in the winter, you should get a dedicated winter wheel set up, rather than all seasons.
read this thread regarding winter wheels/tires: My Winter Rims/Tires Setup: TRMotorsport C2 + Blizzak LM-25 w/TPMS w/pics (AK370Z) and here's one on regarding noise: Cabin noise for summer tires, the michelin pilot super sports are popular, and what i plan to replace the stock re050s with when it's time. there are a number of options though.

The guy at Discount Tire says the best option to replace the Nittos would be to use the BF Goodrich G force sport comp 2 and then get a winter set with rims from Tire Rack. What are your opinions of the BFG tires? Please help me out, I can go with the Michelins, but they cost more

Sport Comp 2's are good tires. Some of the less dedicated AutoX guys run them with good results. They are decent ride with decent road noise.
