Default Extended studs and wheel spacers install cost...wth?

A very well know Z specialist shop here in the Atlanta area quoted me $770 to have extended studs and wheel spacers installed. I thought this was a joke at first but apparently they were serious. Is $770 even in the ballpark about how much the labor cost should be? I was trying to avoid doing the job myself but I'll do it if it really costs anywhere near this much.

Side note.. About how much should I expect to pay if I also had springs installed? I'm just curious if I should go ahead and do that at the same time or not.

Thanks!!

How thick are the spacers your are going with? Are these for stock wheels?

I have the stock sport wheels and the spacers I'm going with are 15mm front, 20mm back.

I have a DIY thread on installing the longer APR wheel studs. This is with taking the hubs off and doing it right. Others have done it without taking the hubs off. But they are using the shorter studs.

770 / 4 = 192.50 per wheel

What’s the shop rate and how long did they say the job would take? Some jobs can be a b*tch on the wallet and it’s worth the afternoon or weekend to DIY and keep the money in your pocket. If tools are needed, you may be able to rent from AutoZone or Discount to get the job done.

That's just way too much $$$ for such a pedestrian job like that. Follow Rusty's DIY and save yourself a ton of jack!

It looks like I might have to install them myself. The shop verified again today that it would be $770 for just the extended studs and spacers. I told them that seemed really high to me but they said that was what they'd charge me. I'll probably go ahead and call around just to get some comps and see what other shops are charging.

I would ask for an invoice / breakdown of the charges so you can understand how they get to their number. You can compare this to the quotes you get from other shops as well - labor cost, parts cost, what extra fees they may be throwing in to charge (parts disposal), etc.

Another thing to keep in mind is some shops are just giving you labor rates they pull off a chart for a particular job; so that's how much it costs.
Other shops may give you an hourly rate and an estimate for the labor but they will charge the actual amount of time it took them regardless of their quote. Beware of dishonest shops that may not tell you if the labor was less than quoted.

I was charged under 500 to install H&R lowering springs, spacers, and those bolts at the now defunct Amplified Motorsports 9 yrs ago. $770 just for those bolts is bend over pricing.

Thanks! Yes, that's definitely the video I would use if I install these extended studs and spacers myself.

I appreciate everybody's replies. A little update... I bought a set of Swift springs so now I'm looking to have a shop install the springs, bolts and spacers (and control arms if necessary). I'm pretty sure I'll be able to find a different shop that's a lot more reasonable that the shop I talked about in my original post. Sheesh!! lol
