Default Touchless mounting WTF

I get my new wheels back from powder coat in a day or two so I was looking for a place to have the tires installed. I called America's Tire (Discount Tire), told them my wheel and tires specs and ask them if they would use the touchless machine for mounting. The guy told me they would be afraid of scratching them with touchless machine (makes me wonder if their techs don't know how to use it properly) but they would guarantee no damage with their standard mounting machine. I don't know how the touchless machine works but I thought the purpose behind it was to keep from scratching custom wheels.

I guess if they stand behind their work it doesn't matter what machine they use but I don't want to have to take them back for powder coat again.

I’ve used these guys twice so far:

https://www.ziptire.net/

They’re a mobile service and are fairly reasonable (just a little more than a tire shop, but without having to have someone follow you with the tires to the shop).

As far as touch less machines, I’m not sure if that’s what they use, but they’re very careful (they installed my SSRs twice, once when I just got them and again when I had them powder coated). They deal with a lot of higher end vehicles and even race cars, so I figured they must be good.

I’m not affiliated with them, but I was certainly satisfied with their work.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to give them a call. Sure beats some fresh out of high school kid that some of the bigger chain stores hire screwing up my wheels.

Which America's Tire are you going to? I've been to the one in Chino Hills many times, with brand new wheels and tires, and they've never scratched mine. Most of the guys there are enthusiasts and get it.

The one I called is in Torrance. Maybe I should check their Yelp reviews.

I used to stick to custom wheel places like Wheel Warehouse in Anaheim but have grown comfortable with the America's Tire in Ontario. They've mounted several sets of tires on mutiple sets of custom wheels for me and I've never had an issue. That said, I wouldn't trust the vast majority of chain tire places.

Glad to hear you had good luck with them. I'm going to give "ziptire" mobile service a call and see if they'll service my area and get a cost estimate. Worse case scenario, I go to Americas tire and watch over them while they do them.

Ask for Joey, he did my first install and now he’s in charge of setting up the appointments/dispatch, etc.

I just paid $100 at my local tire shop to swap newer tires from the Volks I’m selling over to my stock Rays....so add $20-25 to that, roughly, but please don’t quote me as their fees might’ve changed.

But if you look at it like this, you don’t need to truck your wheels over to a tire shop, wait a long while, bring them back, and lift and install the wheels yourself....way worth it.

Now about disposal, the 2 times that I’ve used them, I kept my older tires/wheels, but I imagine that they do, just not sure if it’s free.
