Default Funny Subaru

So I'm at Wheel Works waiting in line to get my new 71Rs put on and there's a guy in front of me asking about lifetime alignment and his coil overs. Asking whether they would redo it for him every time he raises or lowers it. Then he starts talking about how his outback is slammed and that speed bumps where his test about whether he was too low or not. I kind of chuckled and asked, You put coil overs in an Outback? He was like hell-yeah, and he put BRZ wheels on it too to make it look awesome! I shut up after that because a don't like dissin on someones car. I thought the way I said it was probably pretty bad already. These young guys never think about just upgrading their car rather than sinking a pile of money into a turd.
Rusty and Spoiler like this.

I honestly don't care what car people modify or how, it's their money, as long as it makes some sense and doesn't make the car perform worse (excluding show cars). But what I really hate is the attitude people come in to shops with essentially "I'm going to mess with my car but you can fix it for free under warranty right?"

Agreed, it's a pretty stupid subject. I guess I found it funnier than it is.

I think it's an interesting thread because it leads to other questions about

1. Why does anyone put out money into mods?

2. When are mods justified?

Some put more in for speed? What percentage of time of use for speeding justified the $$? For instance, are the kids for bragging rights? Are they because 1% of the miles you drive are on a race track?
Some put it in for looks? How my h is okAy for this?

The post can lead to a thread about the cost and worth of mods. For that matter, why buy a NISMO over a sports package given the price difference?

Yea, could have bought a NISMO with what I have added to my car, but it was a little bit here and there, then I added up the costs...

But in the end I had fun, and it will be the first and only car that I will mod as such. Since I am a bit up there in years....

Rule #1 of being a car enthusiast... NEVER ADD UP THE COSTS.

Rule #2: if you do add up the costs don't let your significant other find out the total.
