Powder Coating wheels
I used to own a Corvette and had one of the wheels powder coated. The wheel then became inbalanced due to the powdercoating in the center bore, within the lug nut area and on the hub where it goes flush.
Is this a problem with our OEM wheels? Do we need to instruct the powder coating people to not powder coat these locations? Last edited by SINISTER; 01-29-2017 at 09:33 AM. |

Never heard of this being an issue for any car but then I don't powder-coat and there's a first time for everything I guess.

It sounds like someone didn't know how to tape off a wheel. You should never have powder on the hub mounting surface, or the lug nut seats. I would find a new person to do the wheels next time.

Yep I did more research after I posted this and sure enough they should never powder the hub mounting surface nor the lug nut seats. Since the only option I had was these lamers locally ...I am going to get mine painted satin black. I figure if the OEM's are painted on all the cars I have owned who cares...plus with powder coating if the idiots do it wrong and the temp is too high it can actually ruin the wheel.
Since I can assume most are idiots, I am not going to drive across town and go through all this trouble ...to have them maybe or maybe not ruin my wheels.... Last edited by SINISTER; 02-02-2017 at 09:31 AM. |

That's not a bad plan. Although I feel like Houston has plenty of good powdercoating companies in the area. And you have San Antonio and Austin not far from you.

Not going through all that trouble...I am in North Houston and driving into that crap hole Houston ...no way. I used to do tons of "special" things to my cars but I get bored too easy and all those "special" things someone else is enjoying now instead of me..... Plus most of those things were unnecessary like powder coating, I drive 3 to 4k a year max, dont track the car, dont drive around in gravel... so paint will work ...
