Default Tire Choice

Gentlemen,

My new to me 2016 Z Roadster has the 19 inch wheel package with run flats and no spare. They ride hard and are fairly noisy. The Z is winter stored, and never driven in the rain, unless the weatherman lied and the car got caught in a passing squall.

I have no need for performance tires as I will never utilize their properties, period. My tomcat days are long past and I have nothing to prove anymore. At 68, I haven't had a driving infraction of any kind in 25 years.

When these present tires are done, who makes a smooth riding and quiet tire that will give me decent mileage? I have no need for a spare tire, as I would flatbed the car to my garage if one were ever required.

I dropped my rear tire pressure to 30 psi. It made a noticeable difference in the noise out back.

I had Michelin Pilot Super Sports and they were quieter than stock and have good performance too, I ended up wanting more performance and upgraded to RE71s, but they are loud.

Try Michelin A/S 3, they have 500 thread wear and it performs well when needed

S40s are very sticky and they are quiet enough.

I don't think tire noise is a priority for you since you have a roadster. Lots of quality and top tier tires will be shared here so I will say stay away from that discussion. I suggest you stay away from 3rd tier Falken's, Nexxen's, or even Hankooks (some will disagree here.....but you are from Canada so stay away from this brand).

I have the as 3 on mine now and they are noisey, others comment on them in the car. As for just how loud they are vs Oem I can't say as I got the car used with them. I did track them once and they actually weren't bad, felt loose at the end of the day but never spun out or anything.

I am changing to s04 this Monday so then I will have something to compare on noise. Had my eye on mpss but the s04 are going for a great deal right now and all test have a close 2nd vs mpss while at the same time s04 gets comments of being whisper quiet. Neither is going to give you great wear though and if your not performance driving then might be a waste. If my plans work right then next year I'll probably have a set of 18 squares for track and then just use something like a conti dw for street.

S-04's are very quiet, and incredibly good in the rain. I would highly recommend them. I also recommend the new A/S 3+ from Michelin, if you want a longer lasting tire that does very well. You can do the Pilot Super Sports with them being super quiet and the best summer tire you can get for daily use.

S0-4's are the best tire for the money beside Continentals. Both brands are cheaper than PSS and are very quiet but they don't prvide as much performance but S0-4's are close enough imho.

Cool that's re assuring. I have plans for track day in nov so I'll see how they compare to the a/s 3 (not a/s 3+), hopefully be noticeably grippier.

I never tracked my S0-4's but what I hear is they are good until they get hot then the side walls give out because they are not as stiff as higher performance tires. My observations is that is true when I compare them to my Re-11's. PSS's are better at the track than the S0-4's but not as good as the Re-11's. However if the objective is to keep cost low and a tire that rides nice with low noise...S0-4's are the ticket!

S04 = really good bang for buck all around on noise, longevity and performance

They are not anything I would call amazing noise wise but definitely more quiet then OEM. RE11 kills the s04 in performance but cost a good bit more. They are by far my fav performance tire for the DD.

Yea it was a tough call but in the end I figure I'll try them since they are about 500.00 cheaper than mpss and people have tracked both and get conflicting reports, so one of those won't know till I try. I know the re-11 is the true dual duty tire but I want something that will still last a bit and I'm still only group a (2nd time) so I won't even be pushing it. I figure a second set of wheel and re71r will be my route later.

Anyhow I don't want to hi jack this guys thread. Doesn't sound like he is going to be pushing the car so I would probably say get the conti dw. It sounds like a great tire for street, little softer sidewalk to counter the z firm suspension, supposed to be pretty grippy and also have a decent wear rating. That's probably what I'll do if/when I get some 18 and re71r for track.
