Yokohama advan sport up front,s drive back?
I have a base 2016 with Yokohama advan sports all round 225/50-18 front,245/45-18 back.I want to put 275/40-18's in the back, but could only find the Yokohama s drives in this size.Is it ok to have the advans up front and the s drives in the rear? They look like a very similar tire to me,I assume it would be ok?

I hope so,I took the plunge on Ebay with a pair of S Drive's 275/40-18 ($295.60 + free shipping).Been pricing them for a while, looked like a good deal to me.

Even if they do have similar tread patterns and if you keep the sizing similar, you can't really tell how similar the compounds are.
I see you live in Canada? If the temp gets low on a cool day, one compound may play nice in 40 degree weather while the other might lose considerably more grip. If the rears lose a lot more grip with cold temps, I would say things could turn ugly quick! I would say that if you want to be thrifty, you could try putting the stock 245's on the front and putting the new tires on the rear.. carefully test it out.. but if it's twitchy in any of the conditions you drive in, don't hesitate to order a set for the fronts. Believe me, I have thought about running different compounds on my car.. Mostly to balance the grip more towards the front and reduce understeer and I decided that it wasn't going to be worth it for me to try it out. |

I went ahead with it,looks good, tires don't bulge too much.Previously I had 20/15mm spacers to fill the fenders, but have removed them now.The sidewalls of the two different tires look almost identical,so aesthetically they look fine, driving hasn't changed at all in the few miles I have put on them.Overall if any base owners want a little more aggressive look,I would recommend this over spacers for not that much more $$.........

There's nothing to be afraid of, you're not tracking the car, and even if so they tires are close in grip, I've autocrossed with different tired front and rear many many times and had no issues, hell go look at high hp cars, many people run a street tire front and cheater tire on the rear

Thanks guys,I've had a chance to put a few more miles on it,yea no problems.Ended up putting a 15mm spacer up front as there was a little bit of a fender gap there, now it looks like a nice fit
