I am looking at some particular wheels, 18's 18x8 all around. with 40 offset? Would this look flush? or...?

Not even close. Here's an offset calculator that you can use - Custom rims, wheel tire packages for your ride - RIMSnTIRES.com

Don't bother. These wheels are way to narrow and the offset is terrible

8 isn't too narrow is it? That's pretty much stock isn't it?
Also what would be an ideal offset so it can sit flush with the wheel well all around?

Why would you buy new wheels and not go wider?? Stock base wheels are 8" wide up front and 9" in the rear IIRC.

9.5 in the front 10.5 in the back and safe offsets would be like 25 front and 15 rear but run it through the calc and search button is ur friend
