Tire Bead Rip
Hey guys,
After getting home the other day I noticed that my driver side front tire was leaking a good amount of air from the tire bead. At first, it looked like someone had slashed the tire. After a second, more detailed inspection, I found that the tire was not slashed but had rotated a bit causing the tire bead to rip. Now, I took the tire to a shop and the technician was able to remove the tire to show me the full extent of the damage. The tech at the shop said the tire bead is still in tact, however, the rubber around it is ripped as you can see from the picture. He said it was up to me if I wanted to run it like this but I am not too sure. I thought i would ask you guys for your opinions. What do you think? Should I drive with the tire like this or should I park it and save for new tires? The tire holds pressure now that it was mounted properly (tech said that dealership mounted the tire wrong) There was grease on the inside of the rim from the last time the tire was mounted. Tires dont come with grease... What should I do?

Who mounted/dismounted it the first time? Have that bastid that did that get you a new tire. If the bead will seal and hold air it should be fine but apparently its not and not good at all for a low profile tire especially on a sports car.
The tire techs will use a grease or soap and water to prevent the bead from ripping. Chunk the tire bro. It's no good and the tire shop should replace for free for being stupid

If you plan on driving over about 35 MPH, I'd trash it. Tires ain't cheap but a blowout at speed can kill you.

Thanks for all your help guys! I will be taking the car to a carmax where I bought it and demand a new tire be put on.
I did test out the tire under a lot of stress, fast acceleration, fast deceleration, drifting and cornering....after all those beatings in one night, it still held up great. Just sucks that I have to deal with this. hopefully carmax will replace it.
