Default Tune Question: CBE+Test Pipes+Intake

Hey guys,

Thought I'd get some opinions generated.

My Fast Intentions CBE and test pipes (both non-resonated) should be arriving shortly as it's been roughly 10 weeks already. I'm currently running the K&N Typhoon intake, and I was wondering if a tune is necessary, or if my car will throw trouble codes due to the test pipes without a tune? I've read that it's recommended to receive a tune after 3 breather mods, but with Christmas being right around the corner and having already spent 1600 on the setup, I'm trying to constitute spending an additional $575 for a 93 tune.

'09 370z with 31k.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
CC

I'm betting with the TP's will throw a Cat code and will need the tune to shut it off, But for the mods no. It will run better with the tune but not a must.

They won't throw a code with FI's J-bung.

OP, a tune is not mandatory. And it's maybe recommended

I have a j bung on my test pipes and a fast intentions exhaust. No cel for me. I don't have a tune yet either and I've been running this setup for close to 10k miles. I will be getting a tune soon though

Awesome. Thanks guys. I do plan on getting a tune at some point, but it's important for me to spread the Christmas joy to the loved ones first!

Cheers,

I'm running FI Non Res TP with a J bung and Nismo exhaust. Keep throwing SES code. Stuffed a fat wad of steel wool into J and still throwing code. Will probably need the Uprev tune to get rid of the code for good.

I recommend a tune, I've got the greddy evo3 with z1 test pipes and headers, and stillen gen3 intake, noticed a significant difference after a street tune.

What I'm wondering, instead of foregoing the tune, would the car run too lean or rich when doing done spirited driving or would the ecu be able to compensate?

From the sounds of it,the ecu will adjust itself, but only so much. You will definitely benefit from a tune.
This is assuming you have mods.

Hey guys I found this thread and was hoping i could add to it. I am really a noob at "tuning" after some mods.

What does it mean to tune exactly and how is it done? is it expensive? What does it mean that the car might run better, assuming the only mods are CBE and CAI?

I could have sworn there was a sticky. Just read through the tuning forums pretty much every question you want is there.

Basically you're reflashing the ECU with specialized software and making it run much more efficiently, and better. Optimized fuel, timing, and throttle maps, among other things. The end result is more HP and a much funner car to drive

i believe it's in the north of $500 for a tune. after you get a license it's $300 each time after that
