Default Motion Lab Tuned 2012 Nismo 446WHP/378WTQ Built motor w/ Vortech upgraded Stillen kit

Shop: Motion Lab Tuning
Dyno Type: Dynocom FX5000-AWD
Boost: 12psi
Fuel: 93OCT
Target AFR: 11:1
SAE Corrections: Default Corrections
Peak HP at RPM: 446whp @ 6650 RPMs
Peak Torque at RPM: 378Wtq @ 5840 RPMs
Transmission: Stock 6speed
Gear: 5th
Engine Management: UpRev Osiris tuning suite
Engine/Power Modifications:
  • Wiseco 9:1CR pistons
  • K1 Technology H-Beam rods
  • Stillen Supercharger kit w/ smallest diameter pulley
  • Deatschwerks 1000cc injectors
  • DW300 fuel pump
  • OEM returnless style fuel system
  • Turbosmart BPV
  • Vortech impeller upgrade
  • SETRAB oil cooler

This guy drove to us from Mississippi after completing a nice engine build. He is running the Wiseco 9:1CR shelf stock pistons with K1 Technology H-Beam rods. He is running OEM bearings, crankshaft, and cylinder heads. The Stillen kit has been modified from its out of the box configuration by Vortech with their V3-SCI impeller upgrade. Not to mention sourcing the smallest pulley Stillen makes for it. This car felt stronger than most in the mid-range thanks to the low compression allowing for more aggressive ignition timing before encountering knock. While we have seen higher numbers out of the upgraded Stillen kits on stock pistons, this tune is relatively conservative as you can see we left it a little rich in the mid-range. The owner is considering water/meth to push it further or potentially the switch to turbo for some really impressive numbers . Great guy, clean car, and we were privileged to get an opportunity to work with him on the tune!

Highest run HP/TQ with Boost + AFR Graph:

(Don't forget we have the highest horsepower Z34 at ZNationals )

What? 10.7 AFR is way rich. Wonder what you get with 11.5 or 12.0 AFR.

Yeah we considered leaning it out a bit more, probably would have seen around 465 - 470ish potentially. Not really a major issue as water/meth or switch to turbo in the future. This will be a fun ride for a while until he wants to really make use of the built block .

Thanks,
Alex Goodwin

Default Excellent service at motionlab.

Just wanted to take the time to thank Alex and Todd from motionlab. Really great guys who spent 4-5 hours Tuning my Z. The car is MUCH smoother and pulls most impressively in 3rd. The drive to North Carolina and back from Mississippi was worth every minute. Plus the drive back after the tune was amazing fun. Thanks again to the motionlab crew for the excellent customer service when other shops failed, for taking me out to lunch, and for the great work on my nismo. Can't wait to work with you more on future upgrades.

These are great numbers for a Stillen kit but seems like a waste for a built block. Looks like these types of numbers could be achieved on a stock block.

So....What's the plan, going water/meth won't produce much additional without a bigger pulley. Now a future turbo could definitely take advantage of the block build...Definitely interested where this build takes us

All in all...CHEERS!!!

Jwick much better numbers than those were obtained on a stock block. Previously had dyno'd at 484 and I think once at 492. However pushing it hard drag racing led to a cracked piston head. I wanted something that I could beat like a mule daily and have no worries about that happening again. Besides as mentioned above their is room left in the tune for more power, plus water meth would allow for ability to further advance the timing. It's all about what you want. I want a FI car that I can daily drive and race on the weekend with reasonable security that I will not have a repeat of catastrophic failure that was obtained chasing high numbers on a stock block.

Right on man and I completely agree with building to a level you feel comfortable will not leaving you SOL. I will also apologize if my post came off as a knock. That definitely wasn't my purpose as I was just referencing what the turbo guys are running.

Long story short... keep us posted on your times as you test your build

Thanks Mike, we really appreciate the praise. All that extra ignition timing in the mid range really transformed the way it feels on the street which is great cause I know you were worried about that when you decided to go with the 9:1CR Wisecos.

Boosted Z's are just far too much fun!

Thanks,
Alex Goodwin

Impeller upgrade ran around $500 from Vortech + shipping charges last time we performed the upgrade. Vortech requires that they do all assembly in house so you have to ship the charger in.

Thanks,
