HYPERTECH programmed great, then car no start
Hi,
I programmed my car today with a hypertech unit without issue and it ran great. I decided to update the software because I purchased the unit used. When I went to reprogram my car I inadvertently removed the cable before it was finished. Now the car will not start and when I plug in the unit I get "unit cannot read ecu" or something like that. Please help asap. |

Try disconnecting the battery, hit the brakes a few times, they reconnect the battery and try it again and see if it will recover. Other wise sounds like you make have bricked the ECU
I am not sure what this Hypertech thing is because everyone in there right mind uses UpRev.

You're saying the cable came out midway through the reprogramming? I'm not sure exactly how hypertech works but if its anything like uprev cdox is absolutely right that it probably bricked your ecu. Uprev however has nifty ecu recovery procedures that make it almost impossible to completely crash the newer ecu's... Not sure on the hypertech :/ Worst case scenario you have to take it out and send it in for recovery or buy a new one... Best case scenario it fixes itself overnight (stranger things have happened)

had the dealer try to reflash the ecm with no luck. They told me I needed a new ecm. 1200$ I will be searching for used one. I had no intention of lying to the dealership. Just told them what happened and hoped for the best. Spoke with hypertech customer service. They seemed very thorough and are trying to help me out. We will see how far that goes. Even trying to get in touch with uprev to see if they can do anything. If you know of anyone selling an ecm please let me know. Thanks again, Steve |

Same thing happened to my wifes car, But I had no issue other than a error code about not reading the ECU, The dealer replaced the ECU and the thingy for the key fods , Dont remember the name of it ( Was two years ago), They gave her a hard time but she only had 800 miles on the car so they repalced it under warrenty, They told he it would have been like $2500 to fix, I had a huge thread about it, Sorry this happened man, FYI Dump the HT also, I'm almost 100% sure you losing power.. I had a huge thread on this also , I actualy lost WHP with the HT.

contacted Uprev and they will fix it for free if I purchase the standard package. I am going that route. I had planned on going uprev anyway so this will end up working out perfect. I am very grateful they can fix it. Will be able to return hypertech unit for a refund which makes this entire situation a plus in the long run as I will have uprev instead of hypertech. Cost me 120 at the dealership for the attempted reflash. All in all just send the ecu to uprev, and wait for it. WIll post after the process is complete.
Thank you, Steve |

wow, what is with the hate on hypertech? how many of you even have had experience with it? i'm running the HT just fine on my car, the tune with the long tube intakes has been working very well for me.
not gonna homer for hypertech or anything, would just LOVE to know why everybody is immediately going "uprev or bust" |

+1. I ran Hypertech for about half a year and it was great to me. The only reason I moved out of the hypertech was because I was getting more mods done and I wanted to balance the AFR alittle better.
Hypertech is pretty handy and awesome for what it was made for. They have canned tune currently for CAI + Exhaust, lower speed limiter (to match speed tires are rated for), easy flash in/out etc, etc. I have UpRev now, but NEVER regretted having the module when I had basic mods. What can I say.. haters gonna hate.

Was a failure root cause analysis performed on it to figure out what happened? Did you speak with anybody at HT about the massive lost power? If I were in your shoes I would've been working with their engineering team on that. I run HT on my GR7 Subaru and the Z with no issues so far. Their tech support has been very responsive as well!
