ADMIN Tuned ECUTEK. Are o2 sensors disabled?
Guys,
I have a 2012 370z Sport with the Admin Tune via ECUTEK. I have to get the vehicle emissions done so I switched the TUNE to the 'ECONOMY' mode. Went to get the emissions done and it failed due to the o2 sensors showing not ready. I did some more investigating and checked the Data logging via the mobile ECUTEK app and it looks like its getting a reading from the sensors as well as both o2 Heaters are showing READY. I have every other parameter showing ready except the 'o2 sensors' themselves !! I have driven the car over 150 miles and did the drive cycle via the web for this model and still the 02 sensors are not showing READY. Battery shows 15 volts as well and is only 3 years old. o2 sensors throw no code and definitely gives a reading in ECUTEK My Question is: 1. Does anyone know if ADMINTUNING disables the downstream sensors ? 2. Is there any way to switch them back on somehow outside of having a TUNER do this? Looking to see if anyone else has ran into this in an Emissions Testing state? Thanks |

They’re most likely disabled. Admin likes to turn off things rather than fix his base maps. While you’re at it, make sure the knock sensor is still being used.
Chances are you’ll need a tuner to turn the O2 sensors back on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You need your tuner to turn them back on as those settings are in the map itself, which you do not have access to edit. Those sensors are tied to the "readiness monitoring" suite for emissions. The OBDII test that most states use go by this reading.

Problem with state inspection
NJ is one step behind CA and Mass with their inspections. Essentially I needed all the main emissions systems Complete to pass. This read out is from the Torque App which is free, just need to spend a few bucks for an ODBII BT reader. Misfire, Catalyst, Heated Catalyst, O2 Sensor, O2 Sensor Heater all need to register as complete. NJ should allow for one of those sensor to register as Incomplete, except for the O2 sensor which is an automatic fail if it's not complete. I know you're from Georgia so you'd have to research that states specific requirements.

Ok guys.
The o2 Sensors did come back on to READY STATUS! 1. Also if you have the ADMINTUNE, set it to ' ECONOMY' mode. 2. Make sure you have HIGH FLOW CATS or some type of CATS as my emissions station checked here in Atlanta. 3. Do the below drive cycle. 4. Get an OBD Code tester with Emissions ready function or if you have ECUTEK, get the mobile app and click on OBD READINESS. Super helpful tool and did not know it was there as the emissions guy only told me it was 'NOt READY' and would not tell me why or what was not ready. What I did to get it come on: 1. Drove over 160 miles total and had to do this over a weeks time due to time and work. Courtesy of Smogtips: Pre-Conditioning Requirements: Ensure the Check Engine Light is not on. Gas tank fuel level must be between 15% and 85% during the drive cycle. Engine temperature requirement is between 68 and 86 degrees F prior to drive cycle start. START HERE - The Drive Trace: A. Start your Nissan 370z and idle engine until coolant temperature reaches 160F (until normal operating temperature is reached). B. With the engine warm and using a timer (for precision), idle the engine for an additional 1 1/2 minutes. C. Begin driving. Accelerate smoothly to 56 mph with the transmission in Drive (standard power mode and transmission in auto mode) then release gas pedal and coast for 10 seconds. D. Accelerate again to 56 mph and maintain speed for at least 10 minutes. Use smooth and quick acceleration and maintain speed as constant as possible. E. Stop and idle your Nissan 370z for 10 seconds. F. Accelerate to 25 mph in 10 seconds and hold gas pedal steady for 20 seconds. Use smooth and quick acceleration and maintain speed as constant as possible. G. Repeat steps E and F eight (8) times. Decelerate (coast down) to 15 mph and then drive for 13 minutes at speeds between 15mph and 35mph. H. Accelerate to 53-56 mph and maintain speed for at least 6 minutes. It is more important to maintain accelerator pedal position than speed in this step. You are allowed a 3 mph variance in speed, but must try and keep the accelerator pedal steady. - End of Drive Cycle - |

I’m also in Atlanta. There are some places who are too lazy to physically check for cats. I’m on Motordyne Art pipes and have no had issues for the best 4 years
