Default Do I have a Tune still?

Hey all you Zed heads,

Just picked up a 2010 Z the other day from a used sports car dealership. They were not completely knowledgeable about what upgrades were done besides what they could see.

Easily identifiable upgrades included AEM intake and Fast Intentions cat back exhaust. I asked if they knew or not if it had a tune and they stated they didn't believe it had one. Wasn't like it was a selling point to me though.

CARFAX tells you a lot of great stuff when you purchase their vehicle reports but it definitely does not dive into modifications. The vehicle had a clean history report with only two drivers and pretty low miles. So I happily purchased the Z yesterday.

So this morning I'm digging around trying to track down the past of the Z if possible which I understand is a daunting task. But lo and behold I believe I have found when it was sold by the first owner.

So long story short, yeah I know to late for that, I discovered an old listing for my Z I believe was posted in 2013. Well sure enough it listed every thing on my car and the pictures were an exact match. But here is the kicker it also listed "UpRev Engine Management Software (tuned for 400hp instead of factory 350hp)".

So I pose to you 370Z knowledgeable experts, how do I determine if in fact my Z has been tuned?

Thank you for taking time to read my ramblings for what really was a simple question.

400hp on an intake/exhaust/tune? Do you know what's the state of your cats?

You may be able to contact UpRev with VIN, ECU S/N, etc.

UpRev wouldn't be able to find anything with that information, especially on something from that far back. They didn't start saving flash information until mid-2017, and even that info is minimal. That info can be found out a couple of ways.

1) Find someone with a cable and perform a ROM dump, send to UpRev. They can see if their custom code has been patched in or not. Probably the easiest way.

2) Go to a dealer and pay them to try and write a file to your car. If it fails, then it's probably UpRev tuned. If it doesn't fail, it's 100% not UpRev tuned. The security access is changed when you get an UpRev tune, which means a dealer wouldn't be able to program over it

OR you could just see if it said "UPREV flashed ECU" when you plugged the cable in

If you have cruise control the absolute easiest way to verify if its been tuned or not is to test for map switching.

Hold down set, then press and release cancel 1-5 times, then release set. If the cruise light on the dash blinks the corresponding number of times then you have been tuned.

Might be true, but if he did have a tune, odds are, there are more than one map and would be good to know what they are. Would be funny if the previous owner sold the Z because it was on the Valet map and thought something was wrong with it...

Typical maps are:

1: Tuned Map for 91 Octane
2: Tuned Map for Higher Octane
3: Valet
4: Anti-Theft
5: Factory Maps

Emotionally distant and probably psychopathic. Or did you mean his catalytic converters?

Thanks to ever one for the great information.

I emailed Uprev and asked them how I could tell if I had a tune from them. They said only by using one of their cables and connecting to a PC would I be able to tell if I did indeed have a tune from them.

I am going to try the cruise control method just to see if there is any tune though.

And if there is a tune I'll hit up one of the Tuner shops around the Seattle area that are listed as sanctioned Uprev shops and determine exactly what map I do have.

So apparently I have a tune. I was curious about the anti-theft #4 option, holy f'k did that freak me out for a second, cool function though.
