What Operating System Works Best w/Ecutek?
I don't own a laptop, but need to start shopping for one to do a remote tune with the Ecutek software after I'm finished with upgrades. I've got some time, and don't need to spend a lot of money since this is the only use for the laptop. A used one would be fine, although I'd be concerned that a used one might have a buried virus waiting to infect anything I might connect to, or jump across my WiFi to my PC.
What should I shop for? Is the Ecutek software resource-heavy, or, do I only need a minimal amount of RAM? Which OS plays nicely with it? Compatibility issues I need to be aware of? Thanks! |

I have a Dell laptop (E6420) that is about 10 years old that I used when I installed my tune. It's running windows 7 and had zero issues running the ecutek software, even when doing the data logging. This laptop was only used for this purpose as my regular laptop is a Mac. You could pick up a used one off craigslist pretty cheap and then just install a fresh copy of Windows on it (or have someone install it for you if you're not tech savy).

You could also get the ecutek bluetooth and data log with the app on your phone

Thanks for everyone's input...very helpful. I e-mailed Seb, and he described the BT Adapter, but added that it's only for data logging and not flashing -- you still need a laptop for that. So, knowing that Ecutek works well with Win7 opens a lot of possibilities -- I'll be on the lookout.

Thanks for all the suggestions! After some searching, I think the best way for me to go is to pick up a refurbished laptop at DiscountElectronics.com. It looks like there are some pretty good deals there...
