You can get an email tune, but the dyno tune is the best bet. There's no handheld tuner that's worth a damn. Expect to spend between $600-1000 all in for a NA setup. That covers the software license, dyno time, etc.

+1 no plug n play unit out there that's worth anything.

You can dyno tune, or etune (record datalogs and email back and with a tuner).

You need to put it on a dyno if you will be tracking your car but not necessary for most DDs. As others have said, avoid canned tunes and plugins - get it done right.

SpecialtyZ does sell off-the-shelf tunes. I have no idea if they are any good.

The specialty z off the shelf tunes are great. Seb barely had to adjust anything when we put the car on the dyno.

It is my understanding that the SpecialtyZ tunes aren't one-size-fits-all as the typical canned tunes are - they are tweaked for your particular mods. Not as good as a dyno tune but good enough for many DDs.

Any online vendors sell Uprev/etune packages?

Uprev offers the Standard for $550 USD and it includes the cable, standard license, base map + 3 etunes. However, based on reviews I've read, I'm hoping someone like Seb or other reputable e-tuners sell a similar package, or am I dreaming?

For the cost of a local dyno tune with uprev license (no cable included), I can purchase the Standard and get a cable + etunes, which is why I'm looking to see if any reputable tuners sell a similar package. From my research, a quality etune can be just as good or close enough to a quality dyno tune.

Seb absolutely does e-tuning with EcuTek. The main programming kit with license and cable is $650 for an off-the-shelf tune on a N/A Z. For an additional $200 you can get a custom N/A tune, for which you will have to do some data logging. There is an extra cost for forced induction tuning. There is even another product option on the website if you already have a license and just want to update or tweak your tune.

Here is a link to the full EcuTek kit: Specialty Z VQ37VHR EcuTek ProECU Programming Kit - 370Z/G37. See the "Desired Tune" section for the additional options and costs described above.

Thanks. As mentioned above, I get that he does ecutek. My question is specifically around uprev. My mods consist of intake, test pipes, cbe. The upside of getting uprev standard is the ability to sell it down the road if/when I return the car back to stock. This outweighs any advantage ecutek may have over uprev, considering my mods and plans for the car.

You can sell the EcuTek cable, just not the license. However, I feel like EcuTek is superior because the tuning software is so much more advanced than Uprev. EcuTek uses actual data values in their tables instead of a random zero placeholder with + or - adjustments like Uprev does. To me, that far outweighs the possibility of losing out on a couple hundred bucks down the road. But of course, I don't ever plan to sell the car either. YMMV.

You'll want the ARC upgrade as well for another $100. Gives you:
Flat foot shifting
rolling anti lag
launch control
burn out mod
simplified timing (very worth it)
