Default Autocross Huntsville, AL 10/26

Yesterday was the second leg of the North vs South, where TVRSCCA (Huntsville) has a competition against ALSCCA (Birmingham). Last week we traveled to B'ham and this week we raced in Huntsville. Team point system to determine the club that wins. I won the Novice class (20 entries) by 2.476 second (raw time) over second place. 106 entries overall, I was 36 overall Raw time and 20th overall PAX. Heading to Knoxville next weekend.

WAY too much coasting and you are really late on all the slalom, transition elements. Commit to a peddle. You should be using one or the other at all times. I realize you are a novice, but you look especially nervous about hitting a cone. Hit the sum bishes and find the limits of the car (not uncontrolable).

I'm sure I'm still way too conservative, I hardly ever hit cones. Still learning, but I can tell I've improved from the start of the year. I did the first part of the year on all season tires and since getting the Re-11's I'm having to re-learn how to drive, so used to sliding and having to brake or let off the gas, having grip is a new learning curve.

If you aren't hitting cones, you are not pushing hard enough.

Thanks. It's hard to make myself push it. When I ride with some the faster guys they do exactly what your talking about. Full out and if they hit cones who cares, but when they get a clean run it's usually really fast.

I took EVO school and 20 runs later, I was a diff driver. That very next event after Evo school, I think I hit a combined 20 cones in 8 runs. Why? bc I was pushing pushing and pushing like hell. if you're not hitting cone, you're not driving close enough or fast enough. I used to be that guy. All 6 "clean runs" kinda guy. I also noticed you were little slow on slalom. You probably already know, but back siding the cones will get you through slalom much faster. Remember, you can always tune it down just a little to get a clean run. But getting to know the limit of the tire, is very important.

Remember, cones are meant to be killed. Kill them sobs! lol

Thanks for the feedback. In my last even I tried to make an effort to stay on the gas longer and in the slalom instead on feathering the pedal, I wanted to stay even on the gas. I felt like I was a little better, even hit a few cones, but still need to work on getting closer and back siding the cones.

I did the phase 1 Evo school this past spring right after buying my car and I decided I wanted to try Autocross, I'm planning on doing Phase II this coming spring at the Corvette Museum auto park in KY. I've still got at least one more event this year where I'll be in a run-off for novice class winner for the year.

This is from my last event in B'ham a couple of weeks ago.

That looked like a pretty good run. Really fast course! Good luck with Novice of the year.
