Tire Temperature System Project
Made this system (I'm an EE) for my car, and other HPDE guys I know. It's to know when your tires are up to operating temp. I thought I'd try and get some feedback here to see what people thought.
Here are the features of the kit:
The installation is straight forward. You drill a small hole in the wheel arch for the sensor to poke through. Top center is best to account for changes in tire angle. I'm aware 3 sensors per tire would be needed per corner to monitor camber load. But that's another kit--one with no display and CAN support for data-logging--and not this one, which is aimed at being sub $1k. If anyone is interested just send me a PM or email me at mikes at ntisys.com |

Looks like a cool toy and great idea. I have noticed during auto x the IR handheld temp sensors you have to have it literally a half inch to get an accurate reading. I compared it to a digital gauge that a small probe sticks in the rubber. So you might need to put in a correction factor adjustment to get accurate readings for any given day.

Nice.
IIRC, individual tire pressures are available over the CAN bus. Several CAN threads on this site if you are interested.

How close to the tire do they need to be?
If you drop the screen, and have it produce 4x 0-5v outputs (for pickup by a DL1 or other data acq.) and sell it for under $300, probably could sell a bunch. |
