Default Conti Challenge at CTMS

Glad to see that the 41 car's rebuild was finished in time and that the Toronto boys not only were able to make it out on their "hometown" track, but that they had pretty good pace in practice today.

41 FARANO/EMPRINGHAM NISSAN 370Z Fastest lap: 1:29.081

1.635 behind leader and about .4 off of BJ/Brad's pace

Best luck this weekend to both the 14 and 41 cars!

Mick

41 is actually a brand new chassis which the boys finished in a week !

Hopefully this is much like watkins glen and the big guns burn off tires after 5 laps.

Are you guys allowed to change transmission gears? Or is that outside of GS rules?

It was a fun race to watch although it was tough sledding for you guys. Those Camaros and Mustangs were damn fast all day long. Did the 41 retire with mechanical issues, go off track or something else? I never heard and didn't see anything from where I was shooting.

Here's a link to an image of the 14 on the downhill lefty going towards Moss Corner:

Don't suppose you would tell us which ratio?

I am trying to decide on this still myelf. Torn between the 4.08 and 3.9. It almost seems like 4.34 would be a decent race only setup since you would get more use out of 6th.

^ I did a long series of analysis on my rear end ratio options a while back with math and graphs, just to confirm basic intuitions and whatnot: I basically ended up deciding that on paper in terms of power under the curve averaged across all reasonable track speeds, you always want to go to the biggest rear ratio possible unless you're running out of top speed in top gear. The fundamental reason for that is that the ratios between gears in the stock transmissions get smaller the further you shift up.

The only real mitigating factors are these: (1) You'll shift more often. If your shifts cost significant time (and they do unless you have some amazing formula-car electronic sequential), you could lose time in the net and (2) The higher gears might be weaker in a given street-car transmission and break earlier if spend so much time in them. I think especially on the 7AT that's a very valid concern, and that's what keeps me from trying something insane like a 4.9 (it exists!).

In an ideal world, of course, you'd just swap the ratios in the transmission itself so that they're all closer and optimal (and you'd tune ratios to each track you ran).
