Hoosier A6 question !
Hello ! I have a new set of a6's for the Toledo pro solo. The question I have for you is should I run the brand new tires at the pro or are they better with a couple of runs on them. Thanks. Ken

Brand new, a.k.a. purple crack. They may take half a run or so to get some heat and come up to peak performance, but brand new is when they're at their best.

Do be careful the first few laps, though. There's a super-thin outer layer on all new tires that sucks and needs to be scrubbed off - something to do with the molding process.
Mostly, the stuff you see about properly breaking in tires and then letting them rest for days is about increasing the heatcycle longevity of the tire AFAIK. |

You should scuff them in a run or two before the Pro. Most of the national guys here put a run or two on their's before their next national event when switching to a new set of rubber. Also will help get the mold release off the tires. I'll be breaking mine in this weekend for the Pro. See you there.
Also if you're not busy Sunday you should come to the the NWOR event at the airport to get more familiar with the surface before the Pro.

I burn the stickers off on the first run. Even at Nationals I run on unscuffed tires. They are sex from the second corner on.....
Purple crack is addicting...soon your storage area/garage looks like this: Last edited by 03threefiftyz; 06-13-2014 at 10:14 PM. |
