Default Supercharged nismo drag race launch advice.....

A little help please!!! For any of you who might drag your 370, how do you get your best launch, with VDC on or off? The problem I'm having is with my stillen supercharger on 8lbs of boost if I leave VDC off I just sit and spin all through 1st/2nd gear, and with it on the VDC nerfs my throttle and kills the launch. The strip where I live is unfortunately only an 1/8 mile and I really need to get the best launch. Advice please?

What kind of tires and what rpm are you launching at? VDC off no matter what though.

If you have an aftermarket clutch I find the best way to launch a FI car is to ride the clutch. You want to slip the clutch and ride right on the edge of the tires letting go. These cars Boosted really have issues with traction down low. Tires play a huge play in your launches, you could also play with tire air pressure to get it to grip better.

You have a supercharged 370z & you ask these questions

If your car was 100% pure stock you would still have the same problems.

Did you even go to the track/learn how to drive before boosting the H.P?

I don't think you'll get far anyway, so I'll give you the simple answer. VDC OFF! & get slicks & heat them up properly.

To answer some questions: yes I tracked it before mods and did alright with traction. Yes aftermarket center force clutch and lightweight flywheel. Stock yokohamas right now, just wanted to see what it would do before buying drag radials. Will ride clutch more tonight and see where it gets me. More to follow. Thx for advice so far, much appreciated.

When I did drag racing for the first time with my z I knew I would get shitty times so don't expect good times. But to start out try different rpm's I went from 4500 down to 2k and found for me 3 k was best at about 36 psi on the stock street tires. I also learned dropping my tire pressure down to 30 psi helped a bit too. All this was over a course of 7 or so runs. I didn't heat them up because they are street tires. But try a few different techniques and see what works best for you.

Really? Launching a boosted 370 requires a completely different touch than a NA 370. I'm guessing from your snarky uninformed response you've never driven a FI 370. It's a lot harder than a NA 370.

Op, I haven't tracked mine, but slipping the clutch until you're moving and easing into the throttle seems to work on street tires. First is pretty much useless.

"Op, I haven't tracked mine"

Isn't that like blind leading the blind?

Riding the clutch with a powerful boosted car can wear out the clutch after only 3 trips to the track.

Have you heard of clutches breaking up under stress & going up through the floor & slicing up your legs?

He's racing the 1/8th mile. There's no point expecting anything without gears & real slicks.

It's better to say the truth & know what your talking about than just talking nice.

Wonderful. In the spirit of saying the truth and not just talking nice, ill go ahead and assume you have no experience whatsoever with a boosted 370. I'm not saying to fry the clutch, simply ease into it until it hooks up and roll onto the throttle. First still isn't going to do much unless you're on slicks. That's about the only thing remotely approaching actual knowledge you managed to convey.

dude you drive a 350z i dont think your in any position to be giving a blown 370z driver any flame.

OP traction can be tricky the wider nismo rears help a bit but being blown they wont matter as much. Your best bet is to PRACTICE and learn how to drag start/slip start. Dont just drop the clutch. Read up on it...

He doesn't have a 370, so I'd say he has no first hand knowledge at all.

Which is why it irritated me he came into a thread where a guy with a SC'd 370 was asking for tips for launching the car and **** all over the guy.
