Track Insurance?
I spoke with my insurance agent and she said that I am not covered if something happens at the track. I was planning to take my car there for the first time May 22nd. This makes me uneasy and unless I can find a way to get covered I am definitely not going to go.
What do you guys do as far as insurance goes? My agent said most insurances don't cover any type of track driving.

You need to ask people in your state as each state is different. You might want to get with the orginizers and maybe they can put you in touch with somebody local to you.

In Ohio you're pretty much screwed I think. For the Michigan tracks I've seen a couple providers but no one for Mid-Ohio or Nelson Ledges.
I've known several folks to be covered for on track incidents because they weren't asked. Then again I got my race car due to an accident at Mid-Ohio. |

My insurance (ohio) said as l long as i was alone on track: no problem (as in autocrossing). Add other cars: they would "probably" cover it but i would then be dropped. I think mt tam gave me a link in his driving journal thread. If i can find it i will post it up.

Most insurance companies will cover you if it's referred to as a "Drivers Education"

That used to be the case but insurance companies are quickly writing in exclusions for "being on a racing surface", so even if you had coverage in the past you need to check again on each renewal.

Just tow it off the track and put it next to a concrete barrier before you call and report it
...then blame VDC for being off Will there be professional instructors at this event providing free instruction? At this event or group you are running in: do they not allow passing in corners, is the event not timed (i.e. no prizes or places), and will there be instructors on site? If yes to all those, then they may qualify the event as driver education and cover you. I was at Willow Springs a few years back and a girl put her brand new SS camaro into a wall. The car was totaled, she and her passanger were fine, but her insurance did cover the cost of a replacement vehicle because all of the above conditions were satisfied. |
