track day event insurance plan?
Hi, I am going to a track day event where they rent supercars.
Four options are F430, LP560, R8v10, 997 turbo. I will be riding two of the above options (I may choose R8 and 997 turbo since I may be able to buy them in future), but I am not so sure about which insurance plan people usually get for these type of cars. I am thinking about buying $59 (I have to buy insurance for each car) Each car will run 1.3 mile track for 3 laps. I do not have experience at track, so I am highly considering getting one. What would you recommend? $39 includes: 50,000 coverage, $5000 deductible $59 includes: 100,000 coverage, $2500 deductible $99 includes: 200,000 coverage, $500 deductible $199 includes: 250,000 coverage, $99 deductible

I guess if you CAN afford the $200/car you rent out easily, then do it, the best value I'm seeing is the $100/500 And god forbid you crash the first car, you'll be out $600, and I highly doubt you're gonna drive a second car because you'll be shaken up Why not go to a cheaper/more simple track day first to get a feel for track day driving before you get in a car with 500+ hp? |

Don’t buy the insurance. Three laps on the 1.3 is less than 5 minutes of track time. You won’t even memorize the track in 3 laps so between your self-preservation and your instructor you aren’t going to hurt the car. There are no straights on the 1.3 where 500+ hp can be used and you won’t even get over 80 mph. They will have all the electronic nannies on so it will take something extraordinarily stupid to wreck the car.

Thanks all who replied!
I'd go ask them first before I make a purchase. But as Dr_ mentioned, it is a very short course, so I think I'd first try with the $59 one just to be safe for the first car. If I feel totally safe, I'd go w/o it or get the $39 one at least for the second car experience.

Better read the fine print too! Smells fishy to me. Probably salvage cars to begin with.
