Awesome weekend at Road Atlanta!
Unfortunately, even though my Contour camera had been plugged into my computer for the last month, the battery was dead.
Any way, Phunk's fuel starvation product worked flawlessly I brought the car home in the same condition I brought it to the track in, minus a little rubber and brake pad thickness. Most importantly, Mike Skeen took me out for a session in my car and showed me what it could really do in the hands of a true professional. It was the ride of my life! I only wish I had video of it. I learned a few things watching him, and I also wanted to know if the car was setup properly, or there was something that could be changed. I don't know how to read a chassis setup, I just know how to adapt my driving to the car's behavior. He told me it was setup very nicely. The only thing he noticed was inside wheel slippage coming out of the sharper turns, even though I have the Quaife.

Spohn says his OSG does it too a little.

Mike Skeen! Awesome.
And as far inside wheel slippage it happens no matter what type. I have the OS Giken and get it from time to time. Depends on many factors from car setup to type of turns being negotiated. So weight transfer is where it all lies. But most likely the slippage is for a brief moment.

The only way to kill inside wheel spin is to make sure both rear tyres remain loaded and that is hard to do.
The other option is a spool diff but they are pigs when it comes to turn-in (they make the car push on turn-in someting severe). If your ever get a chance to drive with a professional, take it as these guys are awesome and you can always earn something. I have shared time in my car at Sandown Raceway with a number of V8SuperCar drivers who moonlight as instructors and I have never failed to improve as a consequence. The thing about a professional is their ability to repeat a lap exactly ... my data always shows braking markers move by 1-2 metres each lap and these guys are hitting their brake markers to within a foot every lap - they carry more mid-corner, picking up the throttle earlier and carry the brake deeper .. all that and they are 2+ seconds a lap quicker and they can bang them out for as long as you'd like. My problem now is that the older I get, the quicker I was !!!! |
