Default NASA Tech Inspection Form

For anyone with experience running with NASA, who do you have sign the tech form or do you sign it yourself? I ask because I have been having a local shop inspect and sign and a co-worker who runs with NASA says he signs it himself. NASA's website just says that any qualified mechanic can sign but it doesn't specify what "qualified" means. Have I been wasting time and a few bucks by not signing off on it myself?

I used to run with them a few years back and I always signed it myself. All of my friends who also ran with them did the same.

Yes you can sign it yourself. For the North East Region they tech all cars before the day/event anyway. The check list is a great way to make sure you pass the event check rather then be not permitted to run till you get what ever it is fixed.

It's probably just passing any potential liability. SCCA Time Trials is self certified except aftermarket safety items. This means if you lose a wheel on track you are the one who certified it was secure and you cant blame them for not checking your work.

Looking for feedback on NASA HPDE events. Thinking about signing up for one at VIR. Have done a few HPDE events but I am not solo.

I think the answer is going to depend on which region. Also, should I assume we’re talking about HPDE? In nasa mid Atlantic you can tech your own car. As an instructor I’m always overjoyed to see someone had a legitimate shop do it, but it’s definitely not the norm.
