Default Seat Harnesses

When I hit the local track last month I noticed that my seatbelts did not restrain me at all. The instructor suggested I install seat harnesses. I saw there were some that are bolted onto the floor and some onto rollbars. Not sure how secure the bar is behind my seats. Any suggestions? 4 point, 5 point, installation.

The bar behind the seats is for decoration only. If you value being alive and unparalyzed, do not use it for harnesses.

A 4 point is a great way to end up scrunched into a fleshy, leaking ball in the driver footwell. 5 point is called "the castrati" for a reason.

FWIW, trying to mount a 2-point sub strap through the floor is a f*cking nightmare. The underbody isn't flat enough for those big ole washers to lay properly. Ended up with a nice mounting hole in my floorplan before I took another route. Ended up welding a crossbar under my sparco seat frame, wrapped the sub straps around that.

Mounting eyebolts for the waist belts is fairly straightforward, screw one into the stock seatbelt hole. Drill a hole through the transmission hump directly opposite the stock belt hole. Coat one side of the mounting washer with silicone sealant. Put that side facing the metal of the hump, under the car.

For shoulder belts I went the less $ route and got a cipher harness bar for ab 100 bucks. Intend on upgrading to MA Motorsports or some other 1 piece bar in the future.

This is another option that is wayyyyy less on cost and effort. CG Lock is a locking mechanism that holds the lap portion as tight as you want it to be. I'm a huge 250lb guy and it held me really well.

its 60$ is vs quite a bit more on a harness and bar. Also don't go 4 point unless its a scroth asm system.

Agreed on never going 4 point. As for the CG lock, to each their own. What sticks in my mind is that a 3-point seatbelt was a design compromise between safety and convenience/comfort - if it was too cumbersome and restraining people wouldnt wear it, hence the compromise. I like a higher level of safety.

And before anyone gets on my *** ab "if you roll while wearing a harness without a roll cage the roof will snap your neck," I'm 6'4 and if I roll I'm a quadriplegic regardless of what restraint I'm wearing lol

Totally fell you on the height issue. I'm 6'3 and just finished removing my headliner for a bit of extra room when my helmet is on!

Lol I did that on my 350. For the 370 I had to custom-weld a seat bracket for my sparco. The seat literally cannot be lower to the floorpan or farther back from the wheel. Took the seat cushion out and shaved it down by half an inch as well.

And I still had to get a new helmet to clear the roof lol
