Question Lap Timer: Bluetooth GPS add-on

I'm looking at getting an improved GPS unit for my lap timer app.

Phones have a max GPS refresh rate and only use certain satellites.
The GPS units come with 10hz updates.

For the price I have alays felt Qstarz software was pretty cool etc. Lot of guys around here use it. Get the one that has the predictive timer, you can break a track up into sections, and while you are lapping it will tell you where you are at in comparison to your best time through that sector.

I guess the question comes down to what combo of instruments should be used to get the data i want.

Choices in increasing price are...

1. Use a Cell phone app:
- with GPS add on $150
- with OBDII add on $100

2. Use a all in one like:
- AIM Solo OBDII $700

3. Use a combo:
+ GPS Lap Timer +
- Qstarz lap timer $400
- AIM Solo (reg) $400

+ plus and OBDII reader +
- OBDLink MX Bluetooth $100
- PLX Kiwi Bluetooth & Kiwi 2 Bluetooth $100

Used the QStarz+Android phone and trackmaster to overlay onto my videos. Now I have an iPhone and have to figure something else out since iPhone does not allow external GPS devices

I can sell you my QStarz if you're in the SoCal area.

Here is an example of my old setup from one of my track days: (datalog starts when starting the first lap (start line on the track)

Seems the V-box sport is only a GPS add-on?

There are other, much cheaper, GPS add-on devices like the above...
unless i'm missing the point of the V-box sport?

For data acquisition I use iOS Harry's Lap Timer with Dual XGPS160 and PLX Kiwi 2 Wifi
I have a different HD camera for video and I'm too lazy to combine the DA with the video that I post on youtube. Now that Harry's can control a GoPro I might go that route for video.

Saw a really nice setup in a 350z with Harry's recently. It was on a dedicated android pad that was mounted where the glove box used to be (car was fully caged and gutted). Was very easy to see etc, which would be my main complaint with the smaller Qstar. With the big Android screen it essentially was a HUD. I was not aware that you can control a go pro with it as well.
