I'm trying to figure out if this is legal or not or if I'm gonna have to put back my stock exhaust every time I get an inspection. Texas owner.

Federally it's illegal, state wide, no.
Find a friendly inspection guy, you'll be ok

As long as you have no check engine light, you are fine. Get a tune and they will turn off the light so you should never have an issue. I've passed 3 times.

Hoping this is the case, long tube headers is a bit more involved to swap off and back on. ^.^
Go up for my first inspection since adding the headers next year, so.

I can answer this from experience with my 94 Mustang Cobra. It is indeed illegal from a federal standpoint as to whether you run into issues depends on which county your vehicle is registered in. For instance, when I lived in Tarrant county I could not get a legal inspection sticker because they test your emissions at the time of your safety inspection required every year, I had no cats so no pass. I now reside in Hood county (far smaller population wise) and no emissions test is required. The larger counties will require emissions tests while the smaller ones do not. It all has to with the air quality i.e.
More people= more people=more cars= more pollution=emissions testing. Hope this helps |
