Of course, the year I say I'm going to get back into this and try to watch the entire race - I end up having plans already.
Rooting for Porsche too. I'm sick of Audi winning year after year. I may try to record the race coverage, but I don't know that I'll sit and watch it all. |

Still better than Toyota did when they first came back to LMP1 in 2012.

Nissan power ruled LMP-2. Next year Im sure the factory team will do well. Growing pains. Porsche was fantastic. Lots of happy people around the Stuttgart region

I wouldnt go that far. not quite what they expected but a lot of context here of what was going on. first of all they were running 40% power and competing in LMP1-H without using their hybrid system so running with around 500hp only. it was never going to compete this year. being it was their first race ever and they brought a car home with a lot of data collected it really sets up promise for next year when they are AWD and 8MJ hybrid like what was always the intention. without the energy harvesting of the hybrid working with the brakes they were having to change the carbon brakes like every 3 hours. it was super fast in a straight line but with no rear driveshaft and no power sent to the back it was low out of all the turns
there is no argument they could have waited another year and downplayed the whole thing until the car was in that spec of working order but they chose to go ahead with it in this form in a very public way. they also had a lot of just plain bad luck that wasnt related to the reliability of the car. they hit a massive piece of debris in the 22 car and had to rebuild the whole front and deal with terrible suspension issues after that but still finished. the #21 car was fine but the wheel came off 3 miles from the pits in the dead of night and they couldnt get it back so had to retire. the #23 car made it until under 2 hours left but when it pulled over for a issue some oil got on the hood exhausts and burnt the car down. Marketing fluff, embarassing showing.
The slow, troubled NISMO GT-R LM is damn good for racing "Too soon junior" |
