The smarter auto-boxes skip shift as well, from what I understand. I have heard it referenced as shift strategy. Fuel economy is the goal. The sooner you get into the OD gears, the better for MPG.

Check to make sure all the clamps are the same...

Check to make sure all the clamps are the same size. My Z1 CAI had two different clamp sizes. The TB clamp needs a larger diameter than the one used to connect to the filter housing.
