Default For the MilJet and Civilian Pilots amongst us ... Queenstown NZ instrument approach

Spectacular approach to Queenstown in the Sth Island of NZ (also called the Land of the Long White Cloud" for obvious reasons).

Apart from being a spectacular view (scenery in NZ is nothing short of breathtaking), it brings new meaning to the term "have faith in your instruments".

This approach is over the lake, the alternative approach (in fine weather) is a terrain following downhill from the Cardrona Pass - it is amazing to see a B737 in what I can only assume is near flight-idle as it follows the valley down to the runway and from the road at the top of the pass, the aircraft is about 500' below road level ... it is a spectacular sight and something special to observe.

Enjoy the 4-min video ....

pretty cool, but not a 737 Probably an Airbus

I got into Queenstown during my time in New Zealand in the Navy flying to Antarctica, but only by car. Only landed in Christchurch. Did get to fly around the entire south island though, and it is truly one of the most beautiful places on earth. I really loved the fjords at the far south.

Awesome video. Reminds me of the importance of, "Tune and Identify" your radio aids to navigation. Having flown in the past, both civilian and military I agree in that you get to see and do some pretty cool **** in an aircraft. I miss flying terribly but medical reasons preclude that now. It was so rewarding and just made you feel alive. Thanks for sharing the video.
