G37 IPL Paddle Shifting vs 370Z Paddle Shifting Question
Does anyone know if the G37 IPL paddle shifters work as well as the 370Z's? I've driven the 370's and was very impressed. I've always been a manual guy, but I could certainly live with that 7AT. The problem I have is that there are no IPL G37's anywhere near me to go drive.
Interested in the G37 over the 370 primarily due to the back seat. Thanks. |

From my understanding it's completely the same as far as the transmission goes.

As far as I know, everything will be the exact same.

I'll answer my own question here.
I just test drove a G37S and a 370Z back to back. Both 7AT. The shifting is completely different. There must be a software difference, the Z is very aggressive, the G is very lazy. No comparison. |

I mean it could be a couple factors:
-Slightly different tuning on the transmission (since we know Uprev can do this they might do it between the Z & G) -Different weight & weight balance combined with HP can factor in how the shifts feel

I wouldn't be surprised if theDreamer is correct on both points. Weight/HP/&c could make it shift (or at least feel) different. Infiniti is more like an Buick/Lincoln (upscale "family" car), so they may have tweaked the TCM for softer shifts.

I used to own a 2009 G37xS. The 'x' only comes in 7AT. I have also driven a '10 370z 7AT. The G didn't feel as aggressive as the Z. The shifts felt better and faster in the Z. The G got even worse after I had taken it in for the TCU reprogramming TSB. In the G, I felt like after you pull the upshift paddle, you watch the gear indicator on the dash change to the next gear, and then wwwwwaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiitttttt, and finally - gear change! Honestly, the 370Z felt better all around whether it was the weight of the car, TCU programming, or seat of the pants feel. As good as the 7AT is, I think it could be a lot better if it was a true dual clutch setup, and not a torque converter.
