Chevy Silverado Hybrid Discontinued in 2014
I thought a 32mpg-hwy truck was a marvel and would sell more than an estimated 2,500 units... Good news is, they went eco-tec. So, direct injection, fuel management, etc.. will be part of the next gen. I'm personally not into trucks but thought the concept of the Silverado Hybrid was interesting.

21 combined MPG, are you going to foot 9000 bucks extra for that?
I'm not a truck guy, either, but apparently the market said "no thanks". That doesn't mean it was a bad idea. It just means the market didn't appreciate it, right or wrong. |

I know... Hybrids in general arent cost effective. People don't usually buy hybrids for that reason. But if you asked me where hybrid tech is more useful? Sports cars or trucks? I say trucks. Yet sports car hybrids are scaringly appealing to many... But that's just me i guess???

But from the article, they estimate the gas savings at 750 bucks a year, which means you'd need to own the truck for over a decade to make that up. I'm not sure how other maintenance costs compare over that time period. |

Well maybe they can reintroduc e it later? I think the Eco-tec engines for 2014 are awesome. They may get close to the current hybrid estimates for efficiency. Then, maybe 5 to 10 years down the line, when Hybrid tech becomes cheaper. We may see a 30+mpg combined 4x4 hauler? That would be awesome.

I see it coming back to trucks eventually. On a small turbo motor with a hybrid driveline, it would be pretty awesome.

True, it also helps to not have a lot of competition. I wish they would get the Group C cars back and bring all the manufactures back. Basically tell them they have X amount of fuel, we don't care what you use and how much power you make. You just have to make it to the finish line using an X amount of fuel.
