Thoughts on the new CTR?
Hey everyone,
What was everyone's take on the new Civic Type R that they finally showed a few days ago? Personally - I liked the styling of the current model and this new one seems to be toned down yet very nice - inparticular with the bumper in the front. Curious to see how much power it will be pushing bc its supposed to be pushing more than the current model stock. They also seem to have moved from 20s to 19s which makes sense as well. Decided to share Donut's review since they are a fun bunch but they do reference the original Honda video as well. Regardless - sharing the video: https://youtu.be/YpSYz_2sJq4 |

Civics for the last few models all look very good to me. OK, the last model maybe went a tad bit too far with the spoilers, plastics and all that stuff, but in general I always liked how Civic Type R was pushing that limit between a street sports car and a tuner-boi car. The only issue I always had with it is that it's FWD. I get that it's their niche, since all other manufacturers went the AWD route last years, but I feel like 300hp+ just on the front wheels doesn't make much sense.

The prior Type R was just too over the top, it had 3 wings for a FWD car? This one looks good, just the price tag for a nice civic but still a civic is a bit much i think. 40K to start!

One thing I find crazy about these compact sports cars that are meant to be also a daily, is that the consumables are getting a bit out of hand....265 width PS4 as standard, optional Cup 2's....big brakes....wow
Whatever happened to the ITR and CTR of the old days, high thrill, cheap consumables, everything you need and nothing you don't, meant to do certain things well and unapologetic on things they don't do. It's crazy even an FF compact has to be like an M3/5 with the "do-it-all" approach. Just my personal view...but I'm still happy Honda is making a CTR though.

Meh, just looks like another sedan with a body kit and spoiler to me, seems like its built on the Accord platform, it's pretty big tbh and 320 crank hp pffft, just another snack for my Z on the track.
It's cool if you're a Type R fan. But it's still FWD so I have no interest at all.

I feel like its just like the new Integra, a manufacturer not willing to take risks. Isn't the Type R suppose to be "track oriented". In other words, look like its fast/ moving when its sitting still. The last gen was over the top but this is just boring.
Im not knowledgeable when it comes to Honda and never really been a fan of them. Though, if it was an appealing car, I wouldnt hesitate to say so. I feel like it could go for a full redesign. |

I think the actual performance of this car and the track stuff they've added like the logging. The aftermarket. The interior. Are all amazing (or going to be).
But damn is it boring looking. |

I would love to own one - but then look to make the Z a project car and start saving up to do things like going FI (one can dream haha). I am a huge hatch fan - had a GTI previous to the Zs I have owned and loved that car. This car I feel would offer better reliability than the GTI and offer that hatchback type versatility along with being a fun hatch. I do agree - RWD > FWD regardless of the torque vectoring etc. But I would love to own one as a daily - for me the current gen is nicer looking than the 2023 but I feel the interior of the new car will be nicer than the current version.
I am sure the ADM will drive me away from even attempting a new gen and the older version might just drop in price enough (the car bubble HAS to burst eventually) for me to get one at a reasonable price…but who knows. |
