Need advice selling my 2010 Mazdaspeed3
Anyone here have any experience selling or buying a Mazdaspeed3?
I'm planning to sell mine soon and was hoping to get some idea on value and best place to sell since this is kind of a special car. KBB "very good" condition says $5,300 - $8,700 for private party. Would I be crazy asking the high range considering it has 132,000 miles? (it's in great mechanical shape, has been very well maintained, exterior and interior in very good condition.) And where would I list a car like this? Mazda forums? Craigslist? |

What's so special about it?
eBay, cars, cargurus, autotrader are all good sites as well to sell on. The more you ask, the more you're going to have to work/wait to sell it.

As crazy as it seems I'd say facebook market place. Never in a million years would I have thought that as I always turned to craigslist, auto trader, etc. However my wife, who is a bit younger than me and in her 20's, recommended facebook when we were looking to add another Z to our stable. Sure enough the market place there is busy and shortly after we found a 280zx in our area that we bough. From what I've seen people like me that are in their mid to late 30's and older tend to turn to what we grew up with, like craigslist. The younger crowd is using platforms they grew up, like facebook. So while I would still say to post on craigslist I would also say to do so on facebook. In fact post it in as many places as possible for the best outcome. If you aren't in a hurry to sell I would start at the higher end and every 2 weeks drop it 500 bucks until hopefully it sells. But given COVID, the economy, and the time of year I think you'll find that people looking to a buy a car in that price range aren't going to be wanting to pay high range. They say in general performance cars sell better in spring and summer. Winter/holiday season is the worse time. While the Mazdaspeed isn't a traditional 2 door sports car, as you said it does have a uniqueness to it putting it in the sports car category. But it also falls into an area where someone who wants a 4 door wagon at a good price may not care that it has extra power. So in the end it really comes down to how desperate you are to sell and what your lowest price you would take.

Okay well I'm 41, so you say Facebook and I'm like, for real?
But I def need the younger crowd for this car. Not desperate to sell at all. A bit sad to part with it, tbh, but it's time to upgrade. (Civic Type R here I come... hopefully the Z won't be too jealous... lol) Totally didn't think about the selling in fall/winter vs. spring, so thanks for mentioning that. So, Facebook, craigslist, Autotrader (would you believe I completely forgot about Autotrader when that's where I bought all my cars as a young adult) JARblue you say cars, is that cars.com? |

I find that the quickest and easiest way to get a ‘base line’ is to go to Carvana - pretty much like Carmax but from the comfort of your own home. They’ll give you an estimate based on what you tell them and the VIN# - easy as can be- if nothing else it provides a ‘base line’ that you can expect and use as a floor for the price of you Mazda3.
As for a CTR - nice -I know I have been looking at them as well. Seems to be great cars but...good luck finding one at MSRP - hell, the used market seems to be selling for either 2020 MSRP prices or even over. Good luck in your search |
