I have owned a 1974 1/2 260z. It was my first Z car. I still have my 1975 280z turbo.

I can't remember for sure but is was a little over $11,000. My best friend bought a new one in 1980 and sold it 6 months later. He actually made money off of it. The 300zx's were in the price range you quoted.
