Another Hyundai Bites The Dust
I thought I would care an acquaintance I see an the track quite often made only two runs in his 2017 Hyundai Genesis G90 5.0L V8 and on his first run was actually able to pull off a 13.5 @ 104 with better tires. On his second run about half way down the track an 02 sensor failed,blew a cylinder head gasket, and poped his motor. Amongst having the worst resale value on the vehicle market and you can’t out run ugly. Hyundai’s reliability and dependability was always questionable and with time these vehicles simply fall apart. From what I have seen the reliability and dependability on the 3.3 Turbo V6 engine is not any better. What are your thoughts on Hyundai? Opinions on these vehicles?

I had a Tiburon years ago and I loved it. Wasn't fast by any stretch but it was an awesome vehicle. It was reliable, probably one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned. As for reliability any manufaturer can have a vehicle that is sub par in the reliable section. Not a particular fan of the newest Genesis but the Genesis Coupe and Veloster Turbo were both on my list when I went car shopping.

Just sold my 2015 Genesis Coupe, had the V6, Auto, nothing wrong, call ran well, even Autocross it a couple of times..... had only 15K on it...
Reason I sold didn't need 2 cars, the Z is now the DD, time to enjoy the Z all the time...

I've mostly heard pistitive things about hyundai vehicles. I'm sure craftsmanship had declined a bit over the years but once again that's all manufaturers. I had an Eclipse and that car was known for having questionable hiccups but generally speaking it didn't give me a bunch of major problems. It's possible the Azera is just an awful model or maybe you got one that was just destined to fail but I can't necessarily consider an entire company trash due to a few poor examples.

Having seen a lot of failures at the track over the years and owning a Hyundai Azrea and being an acquaintance with Hyundai owners I don’t think I know that all Hyundai models are inferior and poor quality. My complaints in my experience owning a Hyundai Azrea the worst resale value on the vehicle market over the first five years of any auto marker right next to Kia,high and fast depreciation, rookies in the performance vehicle market,do not want to support South Korea or their economy,transmissions grind and are clunky and have 2nd gear lockout, has rpm hang and sticks during shifts,heavy weight,traction control really sucks, paint is soft and chips easy,aftermarket sucks for Hyundai as not many aftermarket part company’s want to manufacturer and/or sell aftermarket parts for Hyundai vehicles,weak drivetrain,poor quality replacement parts,and prone to exhaust leaks.

I never flogged on them, but have owned a 2000 Tibby and a 2005 XG350. The XG was a nice car but with horrible torque steer and an interior that seemed very luxurious, but started literally falling apart at 50k miles. I lost the Tibby in a divorce, and we dumped the XG after taking a huge beating on book value.
They weren't bad cars, but they always felt kinda second class...you know, like most modern Nissans. |

My wife had an old Hyundai Pony (probably same vintage as some members here!). I think she ran it to 160 or 180,000 Km. That thing was a tank, and easy to fix if it ever needed. Only took gas, oil (which it did consume a bit of), tires and brakes. I think I replaced a speedometer cable once.
I wouldn't be scared to buy another - just not for performance driving. As a daily, for the price and with the warranty they offer (and, frankly, the fit an finish is not half bad), it doesn't seem like all that terrible a proposition. |

I seen the same thing also I know two other people one with a 2004 Hyundai Sonata with 60K miles and 2005 Hyundai Elantra with 50K miles. The interiors began failing apart and mechanically started to fall apart at such low mileage. I would never recommend someone to purchase any Hyundai model and I believe there are so many other choices out there as far as a vehicle is concerned. From what I was told from current Hyundai owners is that the warranty that Hyundai offers is not what it is cracked up to be a lot of the known parts that fail on Hyundai models are not covered under their warranty that Hyundai offers and the customer is stuck paying for some repair out of their own dime and paying deductibles to repair their Hyundai.

My aunt had an elantra. Treated it like crap, it had 3 oil changes it's whole life span and ran 220,000 miles before one day it just died. Her mechanic seen her only at the end of the cars life. Wondering where she had been for a decade.
My clueless aunt expected him to work a miracle. After 10 years unmaintained, the car was dead She also had a Santa fe which she bought at the same time. It was treated the same. It had 160,000 after 12 years. She traded it for a 2016 Buick enclave. Got minimum trade value but... It was still running. If those two cars lasted with my automotively disrespectful aunt??? Lol... I'll say, they're good cars.

^^^This. I knew a guy with an Scoupe and he drove that thing into the dirt! I say generally speaking they are good cars. There are certainly more unreliable manufactures out there. Hell the cvt transmissions in those Nissans came to mind lol. Been a bunch of different makes and models to lack in reliability, certainly not just hyundai.
