Paint issue

I know that the soft paint on the 370Z is a well known issue but I think I might have a defect of a different sort. When I look closely at the my paint under indirect light I see what appear to be discrete specks under the clear coat. It appears almost as if dust was encapsulated between the base color and the top clear coat layer. These specks appear over almost the entire car. When I first noticed this potential defect I thought it might be a surface issue and attempted to remove the specks via a surface polish. This did nothing to ameliorate the effect.

Have any of you noticed similar specks in the finish of your paint. Is this a true defect or am I just being anal-retentive? If this is a defect, should I try to get a repaint from my dealer under warranty?

I will take pictures tomorrow when I have reasonable light; it is dark now and my garage lights are fairly poor. My car is red.

Sounds like rail dust to me.

Attached is a picture of the "dusty" look I was referring to. I had wiped that segment of the car with a microfiber cloth before taking the picture, so almost none of the dust is simple surface contaminant. From the description on the thread linked to above I think you may be correct that it is "rust dust". If that is the case, ought said dust be removed by claying the car? How can I prevent the formation of such a paint artifact in the future?

I'm soooooo confused as to what's going on, the lighting is super random
If ALLLLLL that crap is under your clear coat, you have other problems.
Are you sure you can't feel any of that with your hands?

Get a plastic bag put your hand inside of it and gently rub the area. If you feel what seems to be a surface that feels like little grains of salt you should try to clay bar the area( or whole car) . If you clay bar the area/car it should possibly lift some of it off.
It that does not work, maybe I would try like an all purpose cleaner ..
If that does not work..polish out the area with a buffer.
If that don't work then ..I don't know ......take it to nissan? haha

I apologize for the crappy lighting in the picture. I had very little time yesterday in which to snap photos and thought the lighting was better at the time. Prior to taking the above picture I carefully washed the car and wiped it down with microfiber towels. Very little of the "dust" in the picture should be simple surface contaminant. I had previously tried to remove the defect via clay bar and dual action polisher which had no discernible effect. It should be noted that this was the first time I had ever clayed or polished a car and thus it is very possible I did not apply enough pressure and/or used too much lubricant. I will try again in the near future. Also, I have yet to try the "plastic bag trick" for determining embedded surface grit; I will give that a go tonight. Thank you everyone for your incredibly helpful replies!

I also just recently noticed these same "dust speckles" or "tiny dots" on my 2009. I also have a red Z and these spots simply do not come off! I just had my car detailed today actually. It was clayed and professionally buffed in 3 stages and these spots still do not come out! I have no idea what it is either. It's all over most of the car. Paint is smooth as glass but you can still see everything in the sun or under florescent lightning.

Any updates on this? I'm just curious...
