Pressed the Start buttun and entire car electrical goes dead
I bought the car last week and just joined the forum so forgive me if this has been covered.
Left work tonight and the car started fine. I stopped on the way home at a gas station. When I went to restart the car everything appeared normal. When I pressed the Start buttun all of the electrical went dead. I got a jump and the car started fine. Drove home and everything appeared fine. Turned the car off and everything was still working properly eg. radio, headlights, dome lights, gauges. Tried the Start buttun again and again everything goes dead. All of the electrical and the car won't start. I saw the key fob thread but I'm not sure this is the same thing. Based on what I know about the car the battery is fine. Any ideas. It's and '09 base 370z. Thanks guys. |

I'd start going through and checking fuses. May not be the problem, but won't hurt to check..

I want to say your battery isn't connected properly. My friend's sister's car had THE EXACT same problem... Could jump it fine, lights were on and such, but right when you went to crank it, everything shat itself... The battery connection was REALLY loose and some moron put copper wire on it to "make a better connection" I guess? Lol

When I saw it I face palmed too... She even called AAA to give her the jump and the guy diagnosed that her alternator was OK, but somehow the battery was at 6CCA, which is pretty much impossible since she was only away from the car for 3~hours...
Thank god he didn't try to sell her a battery though!!! And when I saw the problem I was like, damn the dealershit she bought the car from must have been LAZY |

Did some more reading and decided it must be the ignition lock issue. Pulled the fuse and reconnected the battery and she fired right up.
I do have one side effect I havn't seen mentioned yet. After turning the car off everytime I open the door the window does it's little drop down. The problem is it never goes back up. It will drop a little more everytime you open the door. I can role it up once I'm inside and start the car and will gladly do it forever rather than pay to fix the ignition lock but if anyone knows anything I'd love to hear it. Love the sight guys. Broken at Midnight. Diagnosed and running with a flashlight, flathead screwdriver, 10mm socket, and a pair of needle nose pliars by 3am |

With the car "on", push both window switches down, and hold for 3 seconds. Then pull both up, and hold for 3 seconds. This should reset them and the windows should work as they are supposed to.

Also, since you disconnected the negative terminal, you did what is basically a "soft" ECU reset. The next time you run it, you'll want to go easy on it so it can re-learn your airflows.
