Coolant - What type ? (specs)
Here's a surprise: maint. manual says use only Nissan coolant.
Anyone know the specs so I can maybe buy a different brand? Thanks for any info. Update: Here's the coolant spec you need: Blue Coolant (Asian Vehicles) ASTM D3306 Available from several different brands.

I only use the Nissan blue coolant for my Z. It's not like it's expensive when you consider how infrequently you need it.

Over the last 10+ years, engine coolants have become very specialized. AND in some cases if you add the wrong type/technology it can turn to a gel.
Even when you drain all the coolant out, there is still about a quart inside the engine block. (unless you remove the "impossible to get at with the engine in the car" block drain plugs.) Whatever you decide to do, make sure it is compatible with the Nissan stuff. The "Penrite Green OEM Coolant" in the second post didn't list Nissan as OEM approved. Much like the others here, I just use the Nissan stuff and I don't need to worry about it being compatible. |

This is the stuff I use. It’s blue coolant for Asian cars. Nissan is specifically listed on their website. Works great in both my Z and Maxima.

Blue Coolants - Asian (Japanese) Cars
Quote:
Ya, the Asian Blue Coolants meet the spec I found on a Nissan coolant jug. SPEC: ASTM D3306 (Nissan spec) I found in the local parts store: PEAK Blue for Asian Vehicles, inlculding Nissan and most of the other Japanese vehicles: SPEC ASTM D3306, JIS K 2234. About $20/gal full strength
