Default Fuel smell in cabin

So my car shut off on me after the tank was marking at half a tank but I had no gas so I scheduled it for service and they replaced both sending units, everything works fine but service advisor tells me upon arrival to leave the windows down due to gas smell so I left them down overnight and also cleaned behind the passenger seat and the carpet area, I left for vacation a day later for 8 days and I left it in the garage with the windows half way down and I return but it still smells like gas especially when I leave the car and get back In it later. The gas smell definitely went away a little compared to when I picked it up but it's still there, could this be that a seal was messed up while the sending units were being replaced or just some gas was spilled somewhere??? Kinda frustrated

Gas smell takes a long time to go away.

Of course, there still could be a problem, but I wouldn't freak yet. It's not an instantaneous change.

Odd example. I've spilled a small amount of oil while doing oil changes and it take weeks for the burning smell to go away.

Probably just some drips/splashes that the mechanic didn't clean up very well. As per TreeSemdyZee, it can take quite a while to get all the smell out. As long as the smell doesn't get stronger (more fuel leaking into cabin area), you should be OK. Parking in a warm, breezy spot (outside on a sunny day) with the windows down will help get rid of the smell sooner. If the smell gets stronger, get a pro to check it out.
