Trying to decide if the extended warranty is worth it for the Roadster. Does anyone know how much it would cost to fix the top at the dealer vs. auto

How much to replace top at dealer? (And is warranty worth it?)
Trying to decide if the extended warranty is worth it for the Roadster. Does anyone know how much it would cost to fix the top at the dealer vs. auto shop?
I plan to keep this car for several years. I should also note this car is my daily driver and I open/close the top ~3-5 times/week in the spring/summer. Fall/winter I would probably keep the top up. Last edited by jlx; 04-18-2011 at 11:19 PM. |

Warranty
Warranty does not cover fabric, just the mechanical part of the top. I did get the gold warranty for 6 years 75K miles and the cost was 1525.00

Deciding whether or not an extended warranty is needed is just like with any other insurance policy. If replacing the 'vert top mechanism (or other major components) would set you back financially, then it's probably a good idea. If you think you can comfortably afford major repairs after the warranty runs out, then it doesn't make as much sense. Ofc, you also have to figure in the probability of a major part failing; from what I've read, 'vert mechanisms are pretty reliable but not that reliable.
My advice, FWIW, is to get the extended warranty. YMMV

From my experience so far with the top, I would get it. I am still under warranty but will schedule for a second visit.

My top was replaced under warranty. I asked what the top cost. Cdn$1200 and 8 hrs labour at the dealer. So, ~$2000 give or take in Canada.

My top is going to be replaced under warranty before my warranty runs out. Something sharp is cutting the inner portion of my top when it folds. It's also leaving a weird wear mark. I don't want to replace it yet, i'll wait until closer to warranty expires.
