Nissan purchase a big mistake
I knew that Nissan quality was very poor but my wife wanted a new z convertible so I made her happy and it’s been a nightmare ever since and now it’s become hell! It started with the top being repaired twice, a new battery at 8 mos. now the airbag system has failed and were on the 3rd attempt to repair it, and it doesn’t look good! Thousands of dollars of parts (under warranty) weeks off work to come and get it and leave it at dealer, fuel to and from (it’s a 4 hour round trip to our closest dealer) and now we’re looking at a possible buy back with me losing thousands of dollars. Do not buy Nissan run from these cars and especially the convertible unless you like being towed home from the beach!

Check your local lemon laws? Don't take a loss if you can avoid it.
Unfortunately, the Z roadster has all sorts of issues with the top. So much so Nissan abandoned the roadster before the last model year of the 370Z. I've had over $5K worth of airbag stuff replaced on my Z. But it was all due to a bad windshield install and everything was covered by either Nissan or Safelite. The repairs went smoothly.

California has Lemon Laws to protect consumers. Search the state's Department of Consumer Affairs website. There is likely a pamphlet that you download that will provide some insight into your rights.
I've been lucky so far. I expect that I am on borrowed time when it comes to having a functional top.. I never owned a Nissan until the Z primarily because of stories I heard of reliability concerns. That said, I can attest that Honda/Acura products have their own fair share of issues as well, so it really is just a crap shoot whether or not your car will spend any significant time in the shop over your ownership period.

I feel for you. It's not fun having a car that is unreliable especially new.
In my case, I have owned close to 30 different cars in my life and quite a few sports cars. My 370Z Nismo has been the most reliable so far. I've never had to go to the dealer for anything in the past 5 years of ownership. Absolutely nothing has gone wrong. I liked my Z so much, I decided to buy a brand new 2017 Maxima as my daily driver. I've never had anything go wrong with that car either. The worst car I've ever owned was my 2002 Volkswagen Jetta. That car was an absolute nightmare. I still will never touch a Volkswagen to this day. Anyway, good luck with your issues. Hopefully it will all work out.

I have to second Cybers experience. I own 3 Nissan’s and all have been good with my Z being exceptionally reliable. One hydraulic line leaked after nearly 11 years and over 3+ thousand cycles of the top. It was a straightforward fix. Absolutely no other repairs at all.
I hope you get a satisfactory resolution but overall Nissan is most certainly as reliable as any other major car brand.
