Ok...I have a 2014 roadster. Sooo much fun. Just finish a week zipping around germany, Austria and Italian Alps.

That said, the top reliability is like an ax. I think the perfect solution is a targa. I want to try my hand at fiberglass/carbon fiber. To make things more simple, I want to use the existing ring structures: front windshield connection, rear base and the side window parts as well.

Anybody have a source for any of that?

believe he wants to make his own targa top if im reading it correctly.

someone did one when the Z first came out. believe it started life as a coupe then they cut and made their own system for it. only seen it one time and then never again.

search option is your friend though. i believe there were multiple threads on it.

So not looking to chop a coupe. I have a roadster. Essentially, I want to fab up my own 2 piece hard top. Back can be permanently mounted to the lid. Roof part comes off and on. I like that hardtop that smooth line is making but really don’t want to be married to top on or top off for the trip.

So, I think the easiest way to fab something up would be to incorporate existing interface items like the windshield seal, rear lid seal and window/door seals. Those are the items I am looking for.

You cant really ask for a "source". Id imagine that redesigning the top would involve many different sources.

dont believe anyone has attempted that or have shown it off if they did.

kinda in unknown territory.

however that actually makes it sound like an easier project.

Omb,

Your best bet is to find a wrecked roadster and start with the entire top frame mechanism. There is no sense in reinventing the wheel. If I were interested in doing what you describe, I'd sure start there. Try eBay under wrecked 370z roadsters?

Yeah...I am looking for the wrecked roadster with semi salvageable top frame parts. Ebay has a few items but just thought I would see if anyone else knew of a source with these types of parts. To make things a little harder, I'm in Germany for the next 3 years. Lots of 911's, boxsters and caymans over here but not many 370z and very few roadsters.

Starting with the interfacing items (Front windshield connector, real sealing surface, window sealing surfaces) it should actually be a fairly doable project. I have done similar things with an old bronco top that I turned into a fast back. Pretty easy with an old top I cut up and then added structures to.

In any case...just need to find some donor items. Most important will be the windshield and window interfaces
